Ball Mill Machine:Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding media. Different materials are used

as media, including ceramic balls, flint pebbles and stainless steel balls. An internal cascading effect reduces the material to a fine powder.

Industrial ball mills can operate continuously fed at one end and discharged at the other end.

    Case Study:

    Size:

    Density:

    Hardness:

    Composition:

The smaller the media particles, the smaller theparticle size of the final product. At the same time,

the grinding media particles should be substantially

larger than the largest pieces of material to be

    ground.

The media should be denser than the material being

ground. It becomes a problem if the grinding media floats

on top of the material to be ground.

The grinding media needs to be durable enough to grind

the material, but where possible should not be so tough that

it also wears down the tumbler at a fast pace.

Various grinding applications have special requirements.

Some of these requirements are based on the fact that some

of the grinding media will be in the finished product. Others

are based in how the media will react with the material beingground.

Where the color of the finished product is important,

the color of the grinding media must be considered.Where low contamination is important, the grinding

media may be selected for ease of separation from the

finished product (ie: steel dust produced from stainless

steel media can be magnetically separated from non-

ferrous products). An alternative to separation is to use

media of the same material as the product being ground.

Flammable products have a tendency to becomeexplosive in powder form (see: dust explosion). Steel

media may spark, becoming an ignition source for these

products. Either wet- grinding, or non sparking media

such as ceramic must be selected. Some media, such as iron, may react with corrosive

materials. For this reason, stainless steel, ceramic, and

flint grinding media may each be used when corrosive

    substances are present during grinding.

High density alumina media (9095% alumina) is widely

used in the ceramic industry to grind clay bodies, frits,

glazes and other ingredients. It is more expensive

than silica / silex media but is more efficient.

    5. Pneumatic Conveying Systems.

    Case Study:

Selection of conveyor, type of material handling system, means to

transfer material form one source to its destination. Selection

parameters has to consider, Weight, Mass, Size, Volume, Speed,

Prevent Product loss, Safe handling, Faster Transfer of material.

    Material handling system selection chart:

Defining the process requirement is most important for material

handling, Material are in different forms and depending on its

form an efficient system of material transfer is to be selected,

material handling is often considered as secondary but is the

primary basic for any process. A proper Material handling systemcan SAVE (Money, Time, Material, Labor, Electricity, Reduce

Process time, Space) and improper systems can WASTE All.

Source of material Feed (Primary state of raw material to be

feed or transported is most important for selection of

    material handling system.

Type of Material (Type of material defines the state of

material, ideal state solid, powder, granular, or bulk)

Source and Destination (Study the source and what is the

distance and destination of the product to be transferred)

Material Properties (Most Important for selection as state,

size, shape, density are some parameters to be considered)

Conveying SystemA conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling

equipment that moves materials from one location to another.

Conveyors are especially useful inapp l i ca t ions invo l v ing the

    transportation of heavy or bulky

    materials. Conveyor systems

    allow quick and efficient

    transportation for a wide

    variety of materials, which

    make them very popular

    in the material handling

    and packaging industries.

    Many kinds of conveying

    systems are available, and

    are used according to the

    various needs of different

    industries.

    Conveyor systems are commonly used

inmany industries, including the automotive, agricultural,

    computer, electronic, food processing, aerospace,

pharmaceutical, chemical, bottling and canning, print finishing

and packaging. Many factors are important in the accurate

selection of a conveyor system. It is important to know how the

conveyor system will be used beforehand. Some individual areas

that are helpful to consider are the required conveyor operations,

such as transportation, accumulation and sorting, the material

sizes, weights and shapes and where the loading and pickup points

    need to be.

Precious offers a wide range of conveying systems to reduce load,

automate the process and most importantly prevent material loss,

reduce air pollution, and transfer of material for safe use.

Conveyor system are classified into 5 major segments.

Milling Screening and packagingCase Study: Milling of any granular, solid, or powdered granulate is done with

most commonly known milling systems like Multi mill,

Co-Mill, communicating mill, Ball mill, Pulverizer, Primary

Crusher, Pre Crusher, Roll crusher, Jaw Crusher etc. Interrelation

of these milling systems is adaptive and is standardized by

selection of speed, mechanism of crushing and grinding. With a

constant discovery and gradation system and requirement to packgoods in Granular form for better means and convenient packing,

machines have also advanced and taken modern forms and

    interlinked to the core process.

    - Development of milling screening system for product suitability.- Primary selection of process understanding material and its means to ensure proper handling.- Deciding most important speed of the crushing blades or media- Any granulate has its specific hardness and for milling it requires exact force and pressure to be crushed or milled.- Proper media selection as contact for the material on surface has to be harder then the material to be milled.- Speed selection of milling is important parameter for material properties should not change specially for heat sensitive products.

    Facts of Case Study:

Avoiding product burning, deciding cyclic timing, to ensure product does not burn due to milling.

Milling Screening mechanism is most misunderstood and

normally complicated, Milling and screening is the primary

process for any particulate, Pharma, drug, or chemical plant. Raw

material bought in for packaging or bulk manufacturing, is

subjected to primary milling and screening process followed by

    granulating or mixing blending.

Packaging HistoryThe first packages used the natural materials available at the time:

Baskets of reeds, wineskins (Bota bags),wooden boxes, pottery vases, ceramic

    amphorae, wooden barrels, woven

    bags, etc. Processed materials were

used to form packages as they were

    developed: for example, early

    glass and bronze vessels. The

study of old packages is an

    important aspect of archaeology.

Iron and tin plated steel were used

to make cans in the early 19th

    century. Paperboard cartons and

    corrugated fiberboard boxes were first

introduced in the late 19th century.

Packaging advancements in the early 20th century included

Bakelite closures on bottles, transparent cellophane over wraps

and panels on cartons, increased processing efficiency and

improved food safety. As additional materials such as aluminum

and several types of plastic were developed, they were

incorporated into packages to improve performance and

    functionality.

In-plant recycling has long been common for production of

packaging materials. Post-consumer recycling of aluminum and

paper based products has been economical for many years: since the

1980s, post-consumer recycling has increased due to curbside

recycling, consumer awareness, and regulatory pressure.

As of 2003, the packaging sector accounted for about two percent of

the gross national product in developed countries. About half of this

market was related to food packaging. With industrial revolution

flexible packaging and materials, are also now grown more complex,

advance, advantageous and most importantly economical. New age

packing material we see on selves around us, triggered all round

industrial growth for raw material manufacture or machinery

    manufactures.

    Filling SystemsCase Study:

With round the clock, continuous efforts from our design, R&D and

Quality Production team this quarter we developed new age

technology that has proven to be the future of filling systems. Case

Study revealed some interesting facts that are going to be a break

through for liquid packaging, trouble shooting all the filling errors

that normal packaging line gives and are always a concern that

    affects production outputs.
