In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products. • I started to look at hip hop magazines after typing ‘‘Hip Hop magazine’’ into Google images and a number of magazines came up, the ones that took my eye the most was ‘‘VIBE MAGAZINE, XXL MAGAZINE, THE SOURCE MAGAZINE’’.

• I have chose my main image to be a young black male for the reason that in the world of Hip-Hop most iconic rappers are black males with the exception of Eminem and Asher Roth. People, audiences and potential buyers of the magazine associate Hip-Hop with black people so the clear choice was to have a black Hip-Hop artist.

• The clothing that I had the main image wearing was a dark hat with a golden star on it to represent the artist as a shining star which contrasts with the background which is a plain black and white on both sides of the page so the hat with the star on is symbolic showing that the music artist stands out from plain black and white. I had made the artist wear the hat over most of his face to arouse audiences interest and make them think ‘‘who is this person on the front of the magazine?’’ if they don’t already know who the artist is which then would make them ‘‘Ni Sheng’s attitude and dress style is fresh and cool’’. I basically wanted the main picture to interest and entice people that look at the front cover which is what draws people in to the magazine if they have never heard about the magazine before. I had the artist wear all black with hits of colour to show the artists style which is Hip-Hop/grime style which is known to be quite dark but with the flashes of colour like gold, red and white shows that there is more to him then that.

• The layout of my page has been designed by myself to attract people to look at my magazine, by putting a music star right in the middle of the page to interest people. The name of the artist (Strap line) is the second biggest font size on the entire front page because the name of the featured artist is of great importance. The main title is the title of the magazine which is the most important part of the front cover and seen as it is a new magazine I couldn’t allow the main image to cover the title even if it was just a little bit because audiences need to clearly be able to see and understand the name of the magazine unlike the well known magazines such as ‘‘VIBE Magazine, THE SOURCE Magazine and XXL Magazine’’. I have highlighted the most important words and sentences in the colour red and the other words in back and white.

• The conventions I used from professional music magazines (At the bottom of the page) was conventions props, Image size and position, colour scheme and text positioning.

• Props – The only prop I used on my magazine front cover was a baseball cap because it was similar to the other props that the professional magazines used.

• I tried to develop the background of my magazine pages on further from what I had seen in the professional magazines by making the contrast between colours more sharp and to make it add more of an effect to the main images and also compliment the colour of the text.

• My content pages main image is of two black male Hip-Hop artists, one a DJ and the other is the artist ‘‘Ni Sheng’’. Hip Hop is associated with predominantly black people so I decided to have these in on my content page and included throughout my magazine.

• The background is in black and white but only black on one side and white on the other, the reasons for this is for consistency for the colour scheme of the magazine and the other is I had the models wear contrasting colours for the best effect that would go with the background as one was wearing light clothing and the other wearing dark clothing.

• The biggest font on the page is ‘‘HIP-HOP’’ in the colours black and red so that it would stand out as much as possible on the pages background. It is the same with the other words as well.

• By making the words stand out as much as possible and making them jump out at the audience I have given this aspect of my magazine the same effect that professional magazines have.

•With my double spread page having the most information about one thing in my entire magazine and the biggest picture I had to make sure that the image was easy to look at so it couldn’t be too complicated but that it was also interesting and fresh to look at.so I had a simple layout with an entire side of the double page with the featured artist on looking into the camera it seems as if he is looking directly into the eyes of the reader which I thought would be important because of the front cover where his face is covered by a baseball cap.•The side of information's font colour has been put in red so it stands out and is as easy as possible to read for the audience because they have to read a lot on this page, I have spaced the text out in to easy to read digestible paragraphs as well.easy to read. •I included some images on the information side of the page to keep it interesting to see how the text is talking about. I have put the important names of the artists on the page in black font colour as apposed to the flashy red colour as the rest of the text for recognition for the individuals.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• After research I found an institution who publishes magazines, this institution is called Harris publications. Harris publications is a consumer magazine publisher located in New York that publishes over 75 titles such as ‘‘XXL Magazine, King Magazine Juicy magazine and Rides Magazine.’’ These are just some of the magazines that they publish but these in particular are involved in hip-hop culture and music. As I have based my magazine on magazine such as ‘‘XXL and The Source magazine’’ who have involvement in Harris Productions then it would only make sense that my magazine would be next in being published by the company. Hopefully following the success of XXL magazine, Vibe magazine or the source magazine. Harris institutions seem to be the most appropriate choice to pitch my magazine too.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

• My audience are lovers of Hip-Hop and people who are interested in the growth of Hip-Hop in the UK, I think the audience will be late teens through to late 20’s or early 30’s. with the information of new music artists, information on there favourite music artists, new songs that are coming out, new fashions and styles of the music world, even new music products like microphones, earphones, speakers, new videogames.

• The music ‘‘genre’’ that my magazine includes would actually be the same kind of music that the audiences listens too, so the audience would be interested in the magazine so that they could see what new is going on in the ‘‘Hip-Hop or grime scene.’’

• With all the features my magazine would contain and having new information with each issue that comes out every month.

• In my magazine I have stories of young artists that have made it into the music industry and many young people these days have dreams of fame and fortune and how they could get to the same level as of success that those young artists have achieved so young people would read the magazine to become inspired and have an insight on the inner world of music.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?• The main technology that I used

during the production of my magazine was Photoshop elements. This technology had tools such as ‘‘magnetic lasso tool, the magic eraser, layer masking and erasing, layer merging, layer duplication, text and colour’’. With all of these I was able to imitate the professional magazines and make my magazine look as professional as theirs. With cropping images, text placement, colour editing and being able to easily erase any mistakes, I was able to make my magazine look as good as it possibly could.
