CALCIUM HARDNESSCalcium content of the water is expressed in ppm. If left too low, it will attackanything it can to satisfy itself: concrete, grout, marsite and metals. Ideal rangeis 200-400 ppm. If your calcium hardness starts around 400 ppm, or climbsabove as a result of the disinfectant you are using, sequestering agents cankeep calcium in solution and prevent excessive scale accumulation.

PHAs a water balance factor, pH has the most impact onproperly balanced water and user comfort.

TOTAL ALKALINITYTotal Alkalinity is the first water balance parameter that is adjusted. Ideal rangeis between 80 and 120 ppm. If the value is less than 80 ppm, the water canbecome aggressive and the pH can swing upward and downward with slightchemical additions. If the value is higher than 120 ppm, the water can becomecloudy and scale forming and the pH will become locked. Addition of acids orbases is used to make adjustments.
