2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/ BACKGROUND INFORMATION

2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent:-

This is a mining project of the mineral Dolomite Stone over an area of 8.094 ha Near Village:

Malegaon, Tehsil-Sausar District- Chhindwara (MP).

The details of the project proponent and project are given below:

2.2 Brief description of nature of the project

The proposed mining lease area is 8.094 Ha in Near Village- Malegaon, Tehsil-Sausar, District-

Chhindwara (MP) with proposed annual production capacity of 89,100 MT by opencast method.

2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region

Steel plants draw major supplies of dolomite for use as a flux and also as a refractory material. It is

useful in the recovery of magnesia and also in the manufacture of magnesium metal; for the

manufacture of basic magnesium carbonate (termed ‘technical carbonate’), ‘block magnesia’ or

‘magnesia alba’ used in pipe and boiler coverings as heat insulation, in pharmaceutical, rubber,

chemical industries, paper, leather, glass, potteries and high-magnesium limes. In agriculture, it is

used as a soil conditioner to correct acidity. It finds use as filler in fertilizers, paints & varnishes,

and for suppression of dust in coal mines. It is also used as a building stone and in the making of

flooring tiles as chips & powder.

2.4 Demands-Supply Gap

Dolomite increased drastically to 1,594,573 tonnes in 2011-12 from 611,833 tonnes in 2010-11.

Imports were mainly from UAE (57%) and Thailand (30%)

(Source: Indian mineral year book 2011)

2.5 Export Possibility

Exports of dolomite increased considerably to 40,254 tonnes in 2011-12 from 26,801 tonnes in

2010-11. Exports were mainly to Nepal (58%), Bangladesh (27%) and Malaysia (7%) in 2011-12.

(Source: Indian mineral year book 2011).

2.6 Domestic/ Export Markets

A) Domestic Market

The Stone along excavated will be dispatched to steel plants like Bhilai, NECO, Maharashtra

Smelters in Durg, Nagpur, Chandrapur and such other small steel units in Madhya Pradesh,

Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra which are about 300 km from mine head.

B) Export Market

The mineral will be export to nearby market.

2.8 Employment Generation (Direct and indirect) due to the project

There are two types of labours will be working in the mine, Skilled and Unskilled labours. Project

will create direct & indirect employment within the surrounding region. Unit will use good faith

efforts to employ local people from nearby villages depending upon the availability of skilled and

unskilled man-power surrounding the project site. In operational phase, the manual mining the

proposed organizational set up is given below:-

3.3 Details of Alternate Sites

Mining of Dolomite Stone is site specific project and it cannot be shifted to one place to another

due to specific availability of mineral resources. Hence, no alternate site is considered.

3.4 Size or Magnitude of Operation

It is proposed to produce annual production of 89,100 MT of Dolomite Stone.

3.5 Project Description with Process Details

Method of Mining

The mining method has been carried out by opencast method forming 6m x 8m benches adopting

drilling & blasting. There is a proposal to carry out 4 drill holes vertical for 30 m depth at 100 m

interval from the present pit bottom.

Loading and Transpotation

The loading of ore is being done by excavator cum loader to the dumper / tipper and the over

burden loading is done by pay loader. Further transportation to the consumption site dumpers/

tipper are used.

5.0 PLANNING BRIEF

5.1 Planning Concept

Opencast semi mechanized method of mining is in the lease area. Production will be carried out by

means of hydraulic excavator, after drilling and blasting of therock. Drilling and blasting shall be

required to dislodge the mineral. Blasting will be done in sceintific and controled manner. Loading

of stone will be done manually as well as by hydraulic loader.

5.2 Population Projection

Man power requirement for the proposed mining project is 20. Most of the employees will be

recruited from neighboring village depending upon the availability of skilled & unskilled people.

Migration of highly educated and skilled person will take place but it will be temporary basis. So

there will be no permanent migration of people, Hence there will be no population projection.

5.3 Assessment of Infrastructure Demand (Physical & Social)

Adequate infrastructure facilities are available in the vicinity of mine contract area and due to the

mining activities; no extra infrastructure over and above the existing infrastructure is required.

5.4 Amenities/Facilities

Mines Office, Workshop etc.

Proper site services such as First Aid, Rest Shelter, and Drinking Water will be provided to the mine

workers.

Rest Shelter

Rest shelter along with first-aid station complying with all the provisions of Mines Rules shall be

provided by the project proponent.

Water Supply

Water will be supplied for human consumption, dust suppression and for plantation.

Transport of Men and Material

Employee will report to the duty on own means. The material from the mine will be transported by

trucks / tippers / tractor trollies.

Communication

Mobile phones shall be used for communication.

Security Arrangements

Appropriate security arrangement shall be made.

6.0 PROPOSED INFRASTRUCTURE

9.4 Water Pollution Control

9.4.1 Impact on Surface Water

There is no surface drainage passing through the lease area and hence impact of mining activities is

unlikely to make any change on drainage pattern of the area.

No significant impact is envisaged on these surface water bodies as no mine run off will be

discharged to any of the surface water channels during mining operations. It is, therefore,

apparent that there will be negligible impact of mining on the surface water regime.

There is no such impact on

water environment.

Mining shall be carried out well

ultimate depth of pit is from ground

water level. So, mining activity will

not intersect the ground water.

adverse impact on water bodies as the

mineral is non toxic in nature.

To prevent the occupational disease / Health hazards, suitable measures are proposed in drilling &

excavation operations. This will prevent the inhalation of the dust by the workers. The workers will

be periodically medically examined under Rule 29(b) of Mines Rule. If any worker found to have

contracted with any occupational disease, He will be immediately removed from the affected area

and will be provided with proper medical care as per provision of Mines Rule.

In case of any injury to the worker during work, the following measures will be taken:

The workers will be immediately provided the first aid by a trained worker.

For safety practices during mining, the workers will be provided proper safety wearing and

equipments such as hand gloves, safety boots, Helmets, earplugs and life jackets etc.

10.0 ANALYSIS OF PROPOSAL (FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS)

Project will create direct & indirect employment opportunities within the surrounding region.

Unit will use good faith efforts to employ local people from the nearby villages depending

upon the availability of skilled & un-skilled man-power surrounding the project site.

In this proposed mining project workforce of non-technical and technical persons are required.

Migration of highly education and skilled experience will result in increase of literacy in the

surrounding villages.

Assessment of the potential socioeconomic benefits during mining focused primarily on work

force requirements, acquisition of supplies, and the temporary increased demand for services

related to the mining project like food, housing, communications, law enforcement, medical

care, local transportation etc. Due to these, additional revenue to local suppliers for required

products and services related to the construction and operation phases of the project will

generate.

Thus, mining activities will provide numerous new, although temporary, work opportunities

for both skilled and unskilled labor, as well as contribute significantly to the local economy.

Additional government revenue expected from royalty, taxes, duties and other fees.

An added benefit to the proposed project will result in considerable growth of stimulating the

industrial and commercial activities in the state. Small and medium scale industries may be

further developed as a consequence.
