Pray the Rosary Are you praying the rosary? I am challenging every parishioner to pray the rosary once per day for the entire month of October.

Community Sunday Christ the Good Shepherd has a history of hosting “Community Sunday” on the second Sunday of each month. It is a way to offer an opportunity to gather in an informal setting after Sunday Mass and spend a bit of time catching up with one another and meeting others. However, I have noticed that very few people take advantage of this beautiful opportunity. I have also noted that we only offer it after the 7:30, 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. Masses on those Sundays. I wish to share with you an invitation and a challenge. I want to invite you to take a risk and introduce yourselves to people around you whom you DO NOT know. These are your brothers and sisters in Christ and you are worshipping with them every Sunday! I also want to invite you to come to the social hall and spend a bit of your time visiting and getting to know one another. We are working at extending Community Sunday to include every Mass time. That means, hopefully very soon, whichever Mass you attend there will be a time of fellowship in the social hall on the second Sunday of each month/Community Sunday. That means that everyone, from all Masses will have an opportunity to socialize and get to know your fellow parishioners. We are also adding a new feature to Community Sunday. Each month we will be inviting different ministries to be present and have an information table so that everyone can visit with an actual representative of that ministry and get information about it. My hope is that, over time, you will have an opportunity to become more fully aware of all of the great ministries that are offered and the services that happen here at CGS. You owe it to yourselves and your families to get to know more and more of these wonderful people/disciples of Christ.

Fall Festival Speaking of fun and fellowship, next weekend is our annual fall festival. Many of your brothers and sisters have been working for months to plan this one-day event for our parish. We will have craft vendors, fun and games for the children, a silent auction, lots and lots of food and drink and music all day long. At 4:00 p.m. the outside part of the festival will wind down and we will celebrate the sacred liturgy. Following Mass everyone is invited for a spaghetti dinner and live auction in the social hall. It is absolutely a day filled with fun, laughter and lots of community building and sharing. I encourage you to come, for sure, but I also encourage you to sign up to be a part of the ministry—to serve your brothers and sisters. The whole family is welcome.

Rosario una vez al día durante todo el mes de octubre.

Domingo de Comunidad Christ the Good Shepherd tiene un historial de ser el anfitrión del "Domingo de Comunidad" el segundo domingo de cada mes. Es una forma de ofrecer la oportunidad de reunirse en un ambiente informal después de la Misa dominical y pasar un poco de tiempo, ponerse al día uno con el otro y conocer a otros. Sin embargo, he notado que muy pocas personas aprovechan esta hermosa oportunidad. También he notado que solo lo ofrecemos después de las misas dominicales de 7:30, 9:00 y 10:45am. Quiero compartir con ustedes una invitación y un desafío. Quiero invitarte a tomar un riesgo y presentarse con la gente que está a su alrededor que usted no conoce. ¡Estos son sus hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, que vienen todos los domingos a dar culto! También quiero invitarlos a venir al salón parroquial y pasar un rato de su tiempo visitando y conociéndose unos a otros. Estamos trabajando en ampliar el Domingo de Comunidad para incluirlo en cada Misa. Que significa, ojala muy pronto, cualquier Misa que asista habrá un tiempo para compartir en el salón parroquial, el segundo domingo de cada mes/ Domingo de Comunidad. Eso significa que todo el mundo, de todas las Misas tendrá la oportunidad de socializar y conocer a sus feligreses. También estamos agregando una nueva característica al Domingo de Comunidad. Cada mes estaremos invitando a diferentes ministerios para estar presentes y tener una mesa de información para que todos puedan visitar con un representante de ese ministerio y obtener información sobre ella. Mi esperanza es que a lo largo del tiempo, usted tendrá la oportunidad de tener un conocimiento más amplio de todos los grandiosos ministerios que son ofrecidos y de los servicios que se ofrecen aquí en CGS. Es necesario que lo conozcan y lo den a conocer a sus familias, el conocer más de estas maravillosas personas y discípulos de Cristo.

Festival de Otoño Hablando de diversión y compañerismo el próximo fin de semana es nuestro festival de otoño anual. Muchos de sus hermanos y hermanas han estado trabajando durante meses para planear este evento de un día para nuestra parroquia. Tenemos proveedores de arte, diversión y juegos para los niños, una subasta silenciosa, mucha pero mucha comida, bebida y música todo el día. A las 4pm la parte exterior del festival se terminara y celebraremos la sagrada liturgia.

Después de Misa, todos están invitados para una cena de espaguetis y subasta en el salón parroquial. Es absolutamente un día lleno de diversión, risas y una gran oportunidad de crear y compartir con la comunidad. Les animo a venir y también les invito a inscribirse para ser parte del ministerio para servir a sus hermanos y hermanas. Toda la familia es bienvenida.

You may be aware we are conducting a comprehensive assessment of the entire parish as the final step before implementing our master plan. The purpose of the assessment is to help gauge support for the following projects:

General and Deferred Maintenance

Church Renovations

Construction of a new Parish Hall / Meeting Rooms

I thank everyone who has already participated in the assessment. Your thoughts are extremely valuable to us during this planning process. I encourage everyone who has not responded to do so. Your input will help us make an informed decision regarding our long-range plans for Christ the Good Shepherd.

I hope to have all surveys completed by October 26. You may return your survey to the parish office or place it in the offertory basket at any of the Masses.

When I meet anther parent of a child with Down syndrome, there is usually a moment of instant recognition and understanding. The secret we share is the fundamental truth of our existence,

every life is a good and perfect gift. Our love for them has nothing to do with what they can or can’t do. We love them simply because of who they are.

Cuando conozco a otro padre o madre de un niño con síndrome de Down, por lo general hay un momento de reconocimiento y comprensión instantáneo. El secreto que compartimos es la verdad fundamental de nuestra existencia: Toda vida es un don bueno y perfecto. Nuestro amor por ellos no tiene nada que ver con lo que pueden o no pueden hacer. Los amamos simplemente por quiénes son.
