    MEDIA ADVISORY

Unemployed Racehorses Look for New Jobs, HomesLocal Horse Farm to Hold Job Fair for Off-the-Track-Thoroughbreds

Many North Dakotans have heard about the Kiefer rescue horses and the Badlands mustangs, but most are

not aware there are dozens of high quality, ex-racehorses looking for ND homes, too. Dr. RichardBowman DVM founded the Bowman Second Chance Thoroughbred Adoptionin 1993 as a place to rehab

and re-home these off-the-track-Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) that had most of their useful life ahead of them

    but no place to go.

Karla and Mimi Stanley, owners ofPrairie Rose Training Centerin Bismarck, have opened up their barnto help re-purpose these special horses. The Stanleys have adopted several horses from Bowman

Adoption in Rhame, ND and retrained them for new careers.

There are more than 40 horses at Bowmans ranch in need of homes and the Stanleys will introduce

several of them at an Ex-Racehorse Job Fair on Oct. 12,, 2013 as part of Prairie Rose Training

Centers annual Open House. The Stanleys will showcase several OTTBs they have retrained for new

careers in various disciplinesand Bowman will have ex-racers on hand who can be adopted onsite.

Known for their big hearts and can-do attitude, OTTBs excel in a variety of new jobs after racing

everything from jumping, eventing and dressage to trail riding, ranch work and western gaming events.

The Stanleys hope to educate the public about the many horses available for adoption, encourage other
