FACULTY Perhaps the most difficult aspect of performing aesthetic surgery is meeting the ever increasing demands of patient expectations. Plastic surgeons daily face the challenges of solving complex aesthetic problems with little margin of error, confronting the public perception of digital perfection with anatomic realities. Fortunately, techniques and technology have evolved to provide an array of options with the potential to produce greater aesthetic control and more predictable results. The theme of the 52nd Baker Gordon Symposium on Cosmetic Surgery is to examine those pragmatic solutions which produce elegant outcomes – What Works – in obtaining consistent outcomes and patient satisfaction in aesthetic surgery.

To help us explore solutions which lead to elegant results, we have scheduled six live surgery demonstrations by masters in aesthetic surgery. These demonstrations include: Face Lift with Lateral Smasectomy, Neck Lift with Facial Lipo Filling, Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty, Primary Open Rhinoplasty, Three-Dimentional Body Sculpting with Gluteal Augmentation, and Vertical Breast Reduction. We have also included several interactive video demonstrations focusing on options in cervical rejuvenation, including contouring the subplastysmal space and techniques for cervical contouring without a submental incision. Video demonstrations for the treatment of capsular contracture, implant malposition, high definition liposuction with gluteal augmentation and high definition abdominoplasty will be demonstrated.

The Keynote Lecture for the 52nd Annual Baker Gordon Symposium will be given by Dr. Alfredo Hoyos, from Bogota, Columbia. Dr. Hoyos is a pioneer in the sculptural aspects of liposuction, and has perfected the art of combining high definition contour through etching of the individual muscles of the torso in combination with autologous volume addition to enhance shape. Dr. Hoyos will share his sculptural innovations, as well as lecture on the application of these principals in high definition abdominoplasty and neoumbilicalplasty, presenting the concept of whether umbilical preservation limits the creation of shape in abdominolplasty.

In the tradition of the Baker Gordon Educational Symposium we have limited our faculty in an attempt to allow focus on interactive interchange between faculty, host and audience. The tradition of combining academic didactics with live demonstrations by masters in plastic surgery has always been the hallmark of the Baker Gordon Educational Symposium. Hopefully this year’s meeting will continue our traditions of excellence in aesthetic surgery education.

You can share in the comments between the operating physician and the audience as easily as if you were right there beside the operating table. Closed circuit television and telephone link-up makes you part of the O. R. team.

Between times, you may visit the exhibit areas, chat with friends and simply enjoy! If you missed any of the previous Baker and Gordon Symposia, there will be a variety of recordings, selected by the hosts, available for viewing in an adjacent area.
