Practice Paper 5

Participants: ACOSTA, Carolina; WEIGUM, Carolina.Subject: EnglishStudents’ age: 6-7 years old (1st, 2nd grade)Time of the class: around 30 minutes Topic: Numbers from 1 to 10Song: “One potato, two potatoes…” https://youtu.be/efMHLkyb7ho

Purposes:

Our purpose is to help students recognize numbers from 1 to 10 so that they can count. We will create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to stimulate children’s learning through songs, games and engaging activities. We will favor children’s active participation in class (repeating, singing, counting).

Objectives:

Students will be able to:

- Identify numbers from 1 to 10 and produce them in English.- Engage in singing a song in order to practice the pronunciation of numbers and make English

enjoyable.- Play games in English to review, practice and remember vocabulary.

Activities:

- First we will present the new vocabulary (numbers from 1 to 10) with flashcards. The flashcards will be big, colorful and they will show number and word: e.g. 1: ONE.

- Students will LISTEN and REPEAT the pronunciation of each number.- We will LISTEN and WATCH the video of the song “One potato, two potatoes…”. We believe

that videos and songs are very useful resources and children at this age enjoy them very much.

- After watching the video once (the song is repeated many times) we will give the children a microphone and encourage them to SING ALONG while we WATCH and LISTEN to the video again. We will SING all together. We will also encourage the students to COUNT with their fingers while they listen and sing.

- After singing the song twice, we will stop the video to show the children the image of a potato and help them infer what it is. Once they RECOGNIZE the potato, we will show them cardboard potatoes and we will COUNT the potatoes.

- Finally, we will play bingo using the flashcards and bingo cards. This activity will be useful to consolidate the vocabulary and it will also be an enjoyable activity to finish the class.
