Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio B.S. 1985 Psychology
Binghamton University, Binghamton, New York M.S. 1990 Psychology
Binghamton University, Binghamton, New York Ph.D. 1991 Psychology PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT I began doing asthma teaching, service and scholarship while I was a professor at Rockford University in Illinois in 1998. I was hired at Jefferson College of Health Science in 2007 to continue in this field. When I arrived at JCHS I continued doing my asthma scholarship by earning a RAP grant for conducting a randomized control trial of my face-to-face group based asthma self-management program. The key element that led that program to be effective was the constructivist based teaching techniques of our weekly meetings. The results of that trial were published in 2011. Training other healthcare systems on how to implement that program was prohibitive due to time, cost and logistical issues. In order to address these issues I have developed my new group based adult asthma education program. The key to this program’s effectiveness is that I found an effective online platform that allows me to preserve the constructivist group based teaching methodology that leads to positive outcomes. I look forward to continuing to conduct this program and training other healthcare professionals how to implement this program to improve asthma outcomes for patients. During the next five years I will be seeking out grant funding from healthcare organizations to train other asthma healthcare professionals on how to implement my program. EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

OBJECTIVES:
Describe trends in CAM use for asthma and the most common types of CAM used for asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR)
Identify resources for taking a CAM history
Develop strategies for supporting CAM use within a patient-‐centered model of care
Use evidence-‐based resources to evaluate safety and effectiveness of CAM modalities
