The Torah The Torah is the most important sacred object in Judaism. Jews believe the words of the Torah were given to Moses by God. Rules for living The Torah contains 613 commandments. These help Jews to lead good lives which please God. Some of the commandments say what should be done; others say what shouldn’t be done. The best known of these are called the Ten Sayings or Ten Statements. These are also revered by Christians and are known as the Ten Commandments.
