bklogo.jpg 1 Monday, 18th November 2013 In the final competition of the year Jain Kim (KOR) and Sachi Amma (JPN) clinched their titles as the world‘ best Lead climbers in 2013. The stage victories went to Momoka Oda (JPN) and Jakob Schubert (AUT), also fledgling winner of the Combined Overall World Cup 2013 (Lead, Speed, Boulder). A long, thrilling, and successful sport climbing year 2013 is now history. With the last competition in Kranj (SLO) from November 16th-17th the last decisions in the IFSC World Cup were made – and in a quite gripping way! In the closest overall result battle since 1990, Korea’s Jain Kim started 20 points ahead of local heroine Mina Markovic in the Kranj competition. And in this last comp of the year, the two female season dominators didn’t give anything away for free: After both topping out in the qualifications, Jain Kim took the lead in the semi finals, just ahead of eternal rival Markovic. But in the final round, Japan’s strong duo Momoka Oda and Akyio Noguchi mounted an offensive and (after one more change in the ranking) climbed to gold and silver in Kranj. Jain Kim’s fourth place in the end ensured her first IFSC Lead Overall World Cup title to crown an incredible competition season! Mina Markovic finished third in the end, and celebrated her third success in the IFSC Combined World Cup including Lead, Speed and Bouldering results! One competition, two winners In the men‘s Lead calculation, the battle was on between Japan’s Sachi Amma and Jakob Schubert from Austria fighting for first place. But after the semis, the results were fixed; Sachi Amma, three- time season winner, gained his second title in IFSC Overall Lead World Cup in a row! In the resulting finals, Amma’s chief competitor Jakob Schubert gave an impressive performance and climbed to a height of 41+ to win the stage victory in Kranj as well as gold in the IFSC Combined World Cup 2013. Silver in Slovenia went to returner Adam Ondra who celebrated his second podium out of only two World Cup competitions this year, just ahead of “golden boy” Sachi Amma. But at the end of a great season, the world’s leading climbing athletes weren’t the only ones celebrating; with 1.750 points in total Japan won the Lead National Team Ranking 2013, followed by Team Austria with 1.567 points and France achieving 1.460 points. The world climbing elite will now take a break for the winter – and we’re already looking forward to a new, thrilling season starting in 2014! IFSC CLIMBING WORLD CUP KRANJ 2013 : JAIN KIM AND SACHI AMMA ARE THE WINNERS OF THE IFSC LEAD WORLD CUP 2013!
