INTRODUCTION

The main aim of the project is to design and

develop and automatic location identification

system using the speech processing system withthe Matlab interface in the real time

environment. We use GSM technology and

symbian os implemented in nokia phones.

OTHER TECHNOLOGIES USED IN

TRACKING

1. Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

2. Global Positioning System (GPS)

3. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

4. Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)

RFID: Small, battery-lessmicrochips. The reader

transmits radio waves that activate the RFID tag.

The tag then transmitsinformation via a pre-

determined radio frequency. WLAN: Network of devices that

connect via radio frequency, such as 802.11b. These

devices pass data over radio waves and provide users with a network with a range of 70 to300 feet.

DRAWBACKS

GIS:

´ Inappropriate for location tracking.

´ Requires large storing devices.

GPS:

´ Require an active data connection.

´ High equipment cost.

´ Not fully miniaturized.

RFID:

´ Cannot tell the difference between one readerand another.

´ Easy to jam using energy at the right frequency.

´ RFID tags are difficult to remove. WLAN:

´ Range is small (300ft).

´ Implementation cost is more.

GSM TECHNOLOGY

´ Global System for Mobile communications is a popular standard for mobile phones.

´ The signaling and speech channels are digital.

´ There are five different cell sizes in a GSMnetwork³macro, micro, pico, femto and umbrella cells.

´ One of the key features of GSM is the SubscriberIdentity Module.

´ The modulation used in GSM is Gaussianminimum-shift keying (GMSK).

IMPLEMENTATION

´ Develop program using matlab to understandcommands.

´ SPI converts signals suitable for

microcontroller logic circuits.´ End the micro controller will read the data and

send the same to the GSM modem.

´ GSM modem send the message to cell phone.

´ Symbian software identify the location andsend the SMS back to the user immediately.

USER INTERFACE

´ Converts signals from anRS-232 serial port to signalssuitable for use in TTL

compatible digital logiccircuits.

´ Dual driver/receiver andtypically converts the RX,TX, CTS and RTS signals.

´ The receivers reduce RS-232 inputs to standard 5 V TTL levels.

MATLAB SYMBIAN

´ MATLAB (matrix laboratory)is a numerical computing environment and fourth-generation programming language.

´ It allows plotting of functions

and data, implementation of algorithms.

´ It allows creation of userinterfaces, and interfacing withprograms written in otherlanguages, including C, C++,

 Java, and Fortran.

´ Symbian is a mobile operating system (OS) and computing platform designed forsmartphones and currently maintained by Nokia.

´ Symbian includes a userinterface component.

´ The Symbian kernel (EKA2)supports sufficiently fast real-time response

´

The OS is optimised for low-power battery-based devices.

 APPLICATION

´ Used to monitor kids movements

´ Used to track the vehicles

´ Used in person tracker´ Used in wild life research

´ Used in defense
