To achieve its goals, the Working Group would:exchange views and share information on factorsaffecting North American energy, including policiesand programs, market developments and anticipated

demand and sources of supply

identify issues that need to be addressed, such asregulatory structures, interconnections, technicalspecifications, and technology research and

development, to benefit trade among the threenations

Published North America The EnergyPicture on June 10, 2002

The report is currently available on eachcountrys departmental Web site

Electricity Regulatory Experts Group

Set up a pilot information exchange clearinghouseprogram and is putting together a public website

Completed a side-by-side comparison of eachcountrys national permitting processes forelectricity exports and the construction ofinternational power lines

Planning to hold stakeholder workshop in 2004

Energy Efficiency Experts Group

Agreed to continue to pursue the

harmonization of performance and testingstandards

Continue to support Mexicosimplementation of the Energy Star program

Published North American EnergyEfficiency Standards and LabelingDecember 2002

Science and Technology Experts Group

Undertaking a work plan that includes

clean energy technologies to advanceenvironmental objectives.

Projects include plans for an Eco-Sustainable Housing Project, a Hydrogen

Village Project, and a Wind Diesel TurbineProject, among others.

Natural Gas Trade and InterconnectionsExperts Group

The Group hosted a private sectorworkshop with representatives with 3countries in December 2003

The group plans to deliver a joint vision ofthe North American Gas Market in 2004

Critical Infrastructure Protection Forum

Forum discusses issues related to thesecurity of critical infrastructure relevant tothe three countries

Countries maintain the flexibility to pursue

unencumbered bilateral cooperation in thisarea

Our three countries have significant bilateralrelations in many of these areas, which arenot supplanted by the activities of the

Working Group

All three countries stand to benefit from

exchanging information and cooperating on atrilateral basis
