Sep 17, 2015Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team meeting notesFacilitator- Marsha Unruh Note taker- Carol Lampe-Van NessIntroductions made around the roomSpeakers-Jolie NeSmith (New Southeast area Special Olympics Region Manager) discussed nationwide initiatives: Project Unified and Healthy Systems- inclusive activities where grade levels partner with Special Olympics teams. Mandi DeWitt (Statewide Representative) also spoke about the Young Athletes program for schools. Shelly Shepard announced practice times for the Special Olympics tennis team they meet weekly on Mondays at 4pm at Memorial Park.

Discussion-Each of the school district representatives spoke about their Transition needs: specifically what can PPITT do support their needs? D-2- to connect students to services that align to their needs when no longer attending school, assistance with paperwork for TRE D12- more services out in the community, socialization, work experiences, waivers for opportunities to do more (not currently in place due to insurance issues), non-paid work experience waiver information: on CDE website D-20- contracted services outside their district, agencies that offer: good work experience, provide transportation, address post-secondary goals/independent living goals, educational and work related goals D-3- partnership/increased communication between community connectors, families and school districts Woodland Park- transportationFountain/ Ft Carson- Gap with Autism- more options for violent behavioral needs, educating parents, more options for residential servicesSchool for the Deaf and Blind- most of their students are from around the state; they have self-sustaining programs and departments, but still need services following graduation; there is a challenge after the student turns 21: TRE does not work with their transition needs. Heather and Marsha from TRE: Consent forms need to be signed early to start communication between TRE and students while they are still in school. Transportation needs were discussed; TRE approves bus passes if the need is tied directly to their program. TRE appreciates more communication and collaboration by attending IEP meetings. Bx services: most agencies are bogged down and it is difficult to support. AspenPointe is an option; they offer emergency respite. There was also discussion on the influx of people moving here because of medical marijuana laws. A subcommittee for social groups was recommended.Committee met with Bob West about the 2016 Resource Guide and Fair. The format for registrations will be changed. Registrants will select services they provide. Directory entries will be limited to 100 words or less. They are working out a glitch for payments. The price will increase to $40 for vendors. Announcements- PPITT will fund the food for the November CSDB student night event as agreed in previous years.Nov 19th meeting needs another location- possible Mosaic, Goodwill, Library 21C. Watch emails for update.Zachs place/SKSF is holding an upcoming fund raising yard sale.There are positions open at Mosaic. Mosaic will be hosting the Fourth Annual Partners in Possibilities fundraising event: free from 8-9am, at the Pinery on West Bijou St The next Love and Logic parenting class will be offered by Carol Lampe-Van Ness on Nov 16: 9am-3pm at Library 21C Ent Conference Room; cost $25 per person.Next meeting: Oct 15, 2015 at 1:00 pm El Paso County Citizens Service Center: 1675 W.
