Has the world really gone mad? Talaga bang tinubuan na ng buntot at sungay ang napakaram-ing tao? Reading this will most likely give you the chills and an entanglement of emotions – disbe-lief…rage…pity…grief…and the like.

When I was a child, I could bare everything while soaking under the rain without worrying that mali-cious eyes would set upon my young naked body. Cousins, neighbors and friends felt and believed the same way. Girls and boys alike could freely do this together…sa kalye…sa sapa…sa bukid…practical-ly just anywhere. Nobody cared at all kung hubo’t hubad mang naliligo ang mga bata, and I don’t recall anyone – young or older person eyeing us with a burning sexual desire. However, with the passing of time, people have changed.

Perhaps, you have never even imagined that something like this can really take place – at least not in our very country known to be the home of millions of God-fearing people.

Totoo kaya ito? Do you believe that something like this can actually happen? Would you believe that there are people who are no longer satisfied with the usual entertainment and fun brought by G.R.O.s? Many men are into something else – something more abominable – isang kahayupan that targets the innocent and helpless young girls. A re-port says that a trashy nightclub caters to men who want to rub and lather young girls who are soaked in a tub. The drooling male audience gets to do the

rubbing and lathering of the young naked bodies to their hearts’ content for P500. The usual two hours of bathing in the tub seems like eternal hell to those girls who fall prey to insatiable maniacs.

The girls, who often feign their moans and laugh-ter while their evil fondlers feast on them, say that they can’t get out because their handlers threaten to kill them should they ever attempt to escape.

These girls are only a few of the thousands of mi-nors being held captive, abused and exploited by white slavery syndicates all

over Metro Ma-nila and other major

cities in the country.

The question that comes to mind is: Why do these girls fall victims to this kind of

wickedness? It all boils down to “kahirapan”. Most of these girls are from rural areas and know nothing about the city. They are lured to the idea of earning and eventually being able to support their families na naghihirap sa probinsiya. Though they find out about their lot right from the beginning, most do not have the courage to run away from their predators because they fear that they would end up dead. Another possibility is that these girls are runaways – they run away from home perhaps

because of extreme poverty pa rin, or abusive or very strict parents or because of a friend’s influ-ence.

If it were true and on the verge of proliferation, does the local government never get to hear about it? And when the concerned do know about it, what do they do? Marami nang napabalita that men of the uniform or other public officials, men who stain the good names of many others, allegedly have been involved in protecting businesses of the same nature. Dahil sa mga walanghiyang ito, lumalakas ang loob ng marami pang katulad nilang walanghi-ya na siyang nananamantala sa kahinaan ng iba. Kung nakakalusot ang ganitong uri ng aktibidades, it’s possible that there is such an involvement “again”.

Sana naman, sa unang pagkakataon pa lamang na makarinig ng gani-tong balita ang mga taong nasa posisyon ay aksyon agad. Find out the truth: Is it really happening? How grave is the situation? Who are the people involved – ordi-naryong mamamayan, may katungkulan? And when authorities have done their homework, iron hands, firmer, stricter and faster implementa-tion of punishments are neces-sary. Dapat bunutin ang ugat so that the tree of evil can no longer grow and bear fruits. Walang sinisino. Walang tinititi-gan. Walang pinapaboran.
