For Swedish sweeper manufacturer Brodd-Son AB, the quick and efficient supply of equipment, spare parts, and technical backup is a critical element in supporting its long-term, global success. Last year, Richard Liljedahl, production manager, made it his priority to find an engine supplier that could support this worldwide presence. He found just what he needed — and more — in Diesel Power AB.

“The main challenges from a global customer base are availability of spare parts and service, and brand acceptance,” explains Richard. “Whether it’s a Swedish client who uses our sweepers 24/7 for two months of the year, or a Saudi Arabian customer who operates them daily, both want as close to 100 percent uptime as feasible and immediate technical backup when needed.”

While Diesel Power is a distributor of John Deere industrial and marine engines for the Swedish market, Peter Nauwerck, managing director, worked with Richard to activate local service support in all of Brodd-Son AB’s export countries through the John Deere dealer network.

Klas Runesson, technical application engineer at Diesel Power, also suggested the ideal engines for Brodd-Son AB’s heavy duty, 2-wheel Scandia sweeper: John Deere’s 4045D and 4045T. The Scandia is popular for its reliability and low maintenance, as well as its sweeping capacity of up to 1.2 t (1.3 U.S. t) per minute — the highest in the market. The engines complement the sweeper perfectly: durable, constant power supply, and low maintenance.

Diesel power ab: a valuable partner. In December 2011, John Deere engine specialist Frédéric Maresse put the Scandia through its paces in an intensive three days of application testing. The purpose was to evaluate, in detail, the engines’ technical capabilities and see whether further improvements could be made. “This level of support is exactly what I was looking for in a new supplier,” beams Richard.

Also at the end of last year, Kalmec Engineering AB, a Brodd-Son AB retailer with over 15 years’ experience in the Middle East, received an order for 10 Scandias in Saudi Arabia. Thanks to the close cooperation between Brodd-Son AB and Diesel Power AB, the units were quickly delivered in December 2011 and January 2012. “It took only a few phone calls to ensure that our John Deere colleagues in Saudi Arabia were successfully introduced to Kalmec Engineering’s local service partner and the customer,” says Peter. If the sweepers keep performance up for the next six to 12 months, Brodd-son AB expects more orders from the customer.
