The Referral Process• Referral to DRS may be made by–The student–The student’s family or guardian–School personnel–Community based service providers
Applying for Services• Referral from School or Parent typically occurs 2-3
years from exiting school system
• Meet with a VR Counselor & Complete the Application for VR Services
* Parent or guardian signature needed if under 18 yrs old
*Or if Guardianship has been granted
• Employment possibilities
• Strengths, preferences, interests, and needs
• Work skills
Make an informed choice!
• At DRS office or school• Hands-on • Postsecondary Education
Rehabilitation Transition Program• Determined mutually• Collaboration
• Written document to outline:– Employment goal– Steps and timeframe– Responsibilities – Services – Training – Supplies– Accommodations

DARS Primary services are non-cost services and are as follows:
– Guidance and Counseling
– Evaluations
– Career Counseling
– Job Placement
– Job Development
– Wilson Workforce Rehabilitation Center Evaluations
Cost Services
• Client may have to pay out of pocket for services
• These services include (but are not limited to):
– Assistive Technology
– Training and Education
– Supported Employment (working with a job coach)
– Wilson Workforce Rehabilitation Center Programs
EXEMPT from Cost ServicesDARS has the potential to pay for cost services with active consumers, if the person requires cost services to obtain their Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) goal
• Examples of how we can verify if your exempt are:– SSI, SSDI, or TANF recipient award letter (Student or Parent)
– Copy of Tax Returns from previous year
– Your counselor will work with you to determine
your participation and what documentation
will be needed
