OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
… you stand fast in one spirit with one mind
striving together for the faith of the Gospel… (Philippians 1:27)
Dear Presvyteres,
You have my heartfelt gratitude for all that you do for our Church as Presvyteres of our Archdiocese. This
newsletter provides me an opportunity to thank you once more for the manner in which you carry out your
diakonia, how in the metaphor of St. Gregory Palamas, you each accept this celestial seed, the word of
salvation and by your own efforts bring it to perfection as a heavenly work and fruit pleasing to God. (Saint
Gregory Palamas, On the Nativity of the Mother of God.)
You support the ministry of your husbands; the dedicated clergy of our Archdiocese, who are bold bearers and
witnesses of the Divine Truth and tireless messengers of the Gospel. You deliver divine love to the faithful, and
to all in your midst who seek and thirst for the liberating truth of God and the infinite love of Christ that is
offered through the Church. As vital partners in Christ centered households, you help to raise your families
with the understanding that in Him, we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).
I have also witnessed how as a Sisterhood you have served and helped each other and I am heartened by this
reality. Continue to support each other and nurture each other so that through the darkness of any
disappointment, you may serve as a source of sustaining hope and spiritual sustenance to your sister
Presvyteres.
I pray that you also remain vigilant in nurturing your own spiritual life. Replenish yourselves spiritually through
prayer, fasting, and participation in the sacraments so that each moment of your diakonia may be in the words
of Saint Gregory of Nyssa, growth into the goodness of Christ (Saint Gregory of Nyssa, On Perfection).
With my thankfulness and my best wishes that you each be enriched by the bountiful blessings of God, I remain
With paternal love and esteem in Christ,
+ DEMETRIOS
Archbishop of America
Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Dearest Sisters in Christ,
As I write this article, I am thinking of all of you and how fortunate I am to be part of the NSP. I have been so
blessed to spend time with so many of you over the last 1.5 years. I am so very thankful for that opportunity.
Those of you who are able, please take a few moments to reach out to other presvyteres and diakonisses,
especially those who are homebound or alone. These small gestures mean so much and make people feel that
they have not been forgotten.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT (continued from page 1)
Since our spring newsletter, many events have taken place. I proudly represented all of you at the APC meetings
(April 2015 in Boston and November 2015 in San Diego), ABC meeting (April 2015 in New York City),
Archdiocesan Council meeting (May 2015 in San Francisco and October 2015 in New York City), the Archons’
Dinner (October 2015 in NYC), Fr. Christopher Metropulos’ inauguration as president of Hellenic College/Holy
Cross (October 2015 in Brookline), and the Married Students Association at Holy Cross (October 2015). We had
our NSP 2015 Fall Board Meeting in Houston and Navasota, Texas in October 2015. I will attend the
Archdiocesan Benefits Committee meeting in Clearwater in December.
Our 9th Biennial Retreat in Navasota, Texas was a wonderful success. Our hostesses Renee Lambakis and
Annabelle Xanthos planned a wonderful retreat, treating us royally. Thanks to the incredible generosity of
Leadership 100 and donors from Houston, we were able to keep the cost of the retreat at a minimum. We plan to
have our 2017 retreat in the Metropolis of San Francisco. As you know, we had an online survey to get feedback
from all of you regarding that upcoming retreat. We handed out a survey to the presvyteres who participated in
the fall retreat, as we always do. We will use the results of both surveys when planning the next retreat.
On page 3 of this newsletter, there is information about a survey for mental health professionals within our
sisterhood. We would like to compile a list of those who would be willing to work with the clergy family,
addressing their unique needs. Right now, we are gathering information from the presvyteres and diakonisses
and, in the future, will probably include clergy. Julie Honeycutt, Athanasia Kostakis, and Anastasia Leondis are
leading this effort.
As most of you know, at our last NSP board meeting, we decided to create a closed Facebook page for the NSP,
allowing a safe place for us to communicate with each other. Last time I looked, we had 224 members. Nicole
Keares, Cindy Paleologos, and Vicki Toppses are the moderators of this page. If you have not yet joined, please
search “National Sisterhood of Presvyteres” and join.
After much effort and thoughtful consideration by a few, we have finally filled the position for the Widowed
Presvyteres representative to the NSP board. Elaine Stephanides is the rep to our board (and Margaret Orfanakos
is the rep to the Retired Clergy Association board). Please feel free to communicate any needs or concerns you
have to them or anyone else on the NSP board.
We are very happy to announce Prez to Prez, which was created in November 2006 to encourage and support
Presvyteres of the Holy Orthodox Church in faith, in love, and in relationships with their husbands and families,
is once again being offered. You will receive this “e-zine” in your email box and it is also available on our
website. Stacey Dorrance, Donna Pappas, Pat Tsagalakis, and Joy Corona are the contributors. They welcome
your feedback. Our Historian, Gabriela Rosu, has taken on the project of interviewing our
older presvyteres. We previewed the first interview she completed at our
board meeting. She will continue with more interviews at each of our
gatherings (board meetings, clergy-laities, retreats, etc.) and will also
include clergy. The completed videos will be available for your perusal
through weblinks. This is a very exciting venture.
Our next board meeting will be held in Nashville, Tennessee—the location
of our 2016 Clergy Laity Congress. The board meeting will be held March
4-6, 2016 and the Clergy Laity Congress will be held July 3-7 at the
Gaylord Opryland (reservations are now being accepted).
We have so many beautiful and talented women in our group. We have so
many ever-evolving ideas and strive to implement them in a timely
manner. We are truly blessed and have much for which to be thankful.
Wishing everyone a blessed Nativity, I am
Your sister in Christ, Pauline Page 2

Please help us stay in touch with you by keeping your email current as
well as your home address with your Metropolis Representative.
The NSP Board has decided that for those Presvyteres for whom we have an email
address, the newsletter will be sent electronically only. This decision was made to
help cut the costs for postage.
A group of Licensed Mental Health professionals and priest wives in the Greek Orthodox Church, who are
committed to connecting Orthodox Mental Health resources with clergy families and the Orthodox
Christian community, are collecting data to provide services to those clergy families who request it. To
that end, we ask that if you are a Mental Health Professional, who is appropriately licensed to practice in
your respective field (i.e., Marriage & Family Therapy, Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology,
Psychiatry, etc.) and you would like to make your services available to the Orthodox Christian community
and specifically to other Orthodox Clergy and Clergy families, please enter your information by clicking

METROPOLIS OF PITTSBURGH REPORT
by Vasiliki ConstantineAs I contemplate of the events since our last report, I see there
have been quite a few happenings for our clergy families:
•Lena Athanasiou became our newest sister in our Metropolis.
Husband, Fr. Anastasios, was ordained and is serving St.
Demetrios in Rocky River (Cleveland area).
•A clergy couples dinner gathering was held in Cleveland.
•A presvyteres get-together for lunch was held in Cleveland
during the 2015 Metropolis Clergy-Laity Assembly in
September.
•Eleni Kallaur hosted a clergy family gathering at her home in
the Pittsburgh area.
Upcoming events
•January 2 is the date for the Clergy Family Christmas
Celebration at All Saints in Canonsburg, PA
•March 29-31 is the Metropolis Clergy Family Retreat at
Antiochian Village.
Looking forward to seeing you at these events as well
as Clergy-Laity in Nashville in July!
METROPOLIS OF NEW JERSEY REPORTby Colette Bourantas
We would like to thank Presvytera Georgia Christo for so
graciously serving our sisterhood for the past two years. We
appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and prayers she offered
during her term.
Since the last Spring Board meeting, the New Jersey Metropolis Sisterhood, along with the Clergy of our
Metropolis, were invited to share in regional Paschal meals with His Eminence Metropolitan EVANGELOS.
Also, our Metropolis Clergy‐Laity offered an opportunity for presvyteres to gather for fellowship in May.
I am honored to serve my sisters in Christ as your New Jersey Metropolis representative. It is my fervent prayer
that we will be able to gather more often during this ecclesiastical year. Please look for different opportunities
to be together and for a Lenten retreat in the spring.

METROPOLIS OF BOSTON REPORT by Eleni Klostri
Life is what it is along with its challenges. Our Spring Retreat was canceled due to the tragic passing of Fr.
Matthew Baker. May his memory be eternal.
Having five Boston presvyteres attending the NSP Retreat in Texas will hopefully refresh us and invigorate our
connections here at home. Our board consists of Cynthia Paleologos as
senior advisor, Marilou Cambas as treasurer/card secretary, and Eleni
Klostri as representative/communications/secretary. We pray our group
can once again grow in the mutual support and love it is intended to be.
DIRECT ARCHDIOCESAN DISTRICT REPORTby Tina Vlahos
Greetings to all! A special event that was recently planned was the Archbishop’s Nameday Open House, which
took place on Monday, October 26, at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Manhattan.
In December we have our annual Family Clergy Dinner with the Archbishop.
Lastly, I am hoping around Christmas time that the Presvyteres will get together to do an event with the families
of the Greek division at the Ronald McDonald House in NYC.

METROPOLIS OF DETROIT REPORT
by Ginny Emroll
The Detroit presvyteres have been very busy. Our two gatherings were a Labor Day Barbecue hosted by Jenny
Legakis in Toledo, Ohio and a Presvytera Brunch organized by Emily Bartz during our Metropolis Clergy Laity
Conference. The brunch was a wonderful event and we had 16 presvyteres in attendance!
We have had 2 additions and 4 ordinations in our Metropolis. The ordinations include: Fr. Christopher & Alice
Abell, Fr. Vasilios & Kyriake Pliakas, Fr. Mike & Keri Manos, and Fr. Jarrod Russell. New to our Metropolis
are: Fr. Simon & Stephanie Thomas (Memphis, TN) and Fr. Cosmin & Grigoreta Sicoe (Lexington, KY). Axios
and welcome to all of them!
Our big “project” for the upcoming year is hosting the national Clergy-Laity Conference in Nashville, TN. I
have been in communication with Sofia Hohnholt and Jerry Dimitriou regarding plans for this event. I hope to
see all of you in Nashville on July 3-8, 2016!
NSP BOARD SENDS
YOU GREETINGS!
WIDOWED PRESVYTERES REPRESENTATIVE REPORT
by Elaine Stephanides
At the invitation of our national president, I have agreed to accept the position of representative of our widowed
presvyteres. I look forward to working with all of you and do my best to maintain communication with the
widowed presvyteres.
I am open to hearing your suggestions and ideas that would help achieve this goal. I would ask each of you,
especially the metropolis representatives, to let me know if your Metropolis Sisterhood has a widowed
presvytera representative. If so, please forward me her name and contact information. If not, perhaps it could be
suggested that each metropolis sisterhood include a representative. This would facilitate better communication
between all widowed presvyteres and the national board.
The Apolytikion of Saints Martha and Mary
Since you believed in Christ with strong and ardent faith, and ever worshiped His divine and
mighty deeds, you both adorned yourselves with all the splendor of sacred virtues. With
your holy brother now, you are also granted to dwell with the ranks of Saints on high, O
sisters of Lazarus; and with him, O wise Mary and Martha, pray for us all unto the Master.

APC/NSP Benevolent Fund
This Benevolent Fund was established by us for us! This Benevolent Fund focuses entirely on OUR Clergy
Families. It is administered by the Archdiocesan Presbyters Council and the National Sisterhood of Presvyteres.
According to a report submitted at the last NSP Board Meeting in Texas, from April 3 to October 3, there were
16 Gifts of Love Disbursements totaling $16,535.24. What does this mean? It means that, as we know, there is
a need to help our brother and sister Clergy Families. We can’t do this without your help. As we are bombarded
with END OF THE YEAR appeals for various organizations, please put the Benevolent Fund on the TOP OF
YOUR LIST of giving! The list below was submitted at the last board meeting in Texas.

I am very delighted to be part of such a dedicated group.
Since spring, I have worked on a new wonderful project of videotaping interviews with our
“older” Presvyteres. We have so much to learn from all Presvyteres and what a wonderful
way to impact our personal and parish life by telling our story. How many stories, advice,
happy moments, and struggles can be shared with all Presvyteres.
The first video interview features Presv. Shiepis and will be available on vimeo.com.
I would like to have as many interviews as possible. There are so many stories to share and
learn from. History is part of our present and future not just the past.
