New Zealand declared that it was free of the coronavirus, becoming
one of the first countries in the world to return to pre-pandemic
normality.
New Zealand is a sovereign island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
Corona History of New Zealand
• New Zealand first went into lockdown on 25 March,setting up a new four-stage alert system and goingin at level four, where most businesses were shut,schools closed and people told to stay at home.
• New Zealand had reported just over 200 confirmedcases when the government shut down the country,and the total number of diagnosed instances of thevirus never topped 1,500.
Borders to Remain Close
• Strict border controls will remain in place for New Zealand, with Ardernwarning that she had no timeline for removing them as they were, shesaid, the country’s best line of defence.
• Only New Zealanders and their immediate families can enter the countrycurrently, and must spend 14 days in government-run quarantine.
• Under new rules, social distancing is not required and there
are no limits on public gatherings, but borders remain
closed to foreigners.
• New Zealand has reported no new Covid-19 cases for more
than two weeks.

deaths from Covid-19 since the virus arrived in late
February, but has been widely praised for its handling of the
crisis.
Border controls would not be lifted even though the
government is set to roll back all containment measures.
• Under the new rules, all schools and workplaces can open. Weddings, funerals and public
transport can resume without any restrictions. Social distancing is no longer required but will be
encouraged.
• The country's borders remain closed to foreign travelers, and rules remain in place requiring New
Zealanders arriving from abroad to go through a 14-day period of isolation or quarantine.
