Melissa’s Story: Once a legal secretary in the UK, I was sat in the office looking out of the

window and it was raining heavily and I thought to myself: there has to be more to life than this. In my lunch break I went out to WH Smith and bought the ‘Lady’ magazine to look for jobs overseas. I applied for a job in Toronto, Canada for Teaching English and one in Athens, Greece. A week later I was offered both jobs, so I decided to flip a coin; tails in Wales never fails for Greece, and heads for Canada. And here I am still today.

After living in Athens for a year, and thinking I had travelled the world, I went back home which lasted for all of 3 months before I booked a one-week holiday with my boyfriend at the time, to Crete.

On my last evening in Crete, in Agia Pelagia, I found a job in a jewellery shop and never returned. From dancing my way across Crete, I decided I had to do something serious and I applied for a job as a travel rep. Having started as a transfer rep, I became a resort rep, moved on to become responsible for the whole of Western Crete and then on to contracting; first only for Crete, but then also for other regions in Greece. And here I stand today, in front of you, showing you my products of my own business.

Every villa in the programme is inspected by myself, or a member of our qualified staff. At the same time all health and safety requirements are carried out. The reason for this is the word villa is a very difficult word to define as everybody’s expectations are different. So we try to bring that home-to-home feeling and try to cover all the necessary requirements and needs of our modern-day traveller which could be a range of anything from: 1) walk-in pools for our less-mobile clients. 2) heated pools for early and end-of-season bookings. 3) near to beaches and amenities 4) modern-day demands of our youth today, such as play station, home-

entertainment systems, Wi-Fi, i-pod stands etc. 5) Outdoor facilities such as children’s play area, dedicated sectioned-off children’s

What we have noticed over the years in our villa programme development, is that although villa clients enjoy the secluded feel of a villa booking, for whatever reason that may be, and enjoy the emphasis of ‘I have booked a villa holiday’, they still seek hotel facilities. Although the majority of hotels do not have heated pools or are close to everyday amenities, they seem to be the first booked.

Our Goals 1. 70% of the villas for mainly West Crete will have

heated pools. I am helping the owners with the machine purchase and installation during the next couple of months.

2. 95% of villas will have table tennis, mountain bikes, and other facilities for families and we will be recognized as a villa company for these in-house facilities.

3. 25% of the villas have their own veg / fruit gardens that the clients can pick and use freely

4. 30% GPS facilities in house for clients to see where to go and what to visit
