What is PowerPoint• Microsoft Program
• Called a presentation graphics program
• A program that combines word processing with a graphics program
• Purpose is to make a slide show
• A project is called a presentation
How can I work on a Presentation?
• 4 Choices– Blank
• Nothing set up on the slide-do it all from scratch
– Design Template (Installed Templates)
• Design template-your slide elements are already put on the slide for you
• Create on the slide
– Outline View
• Type in words similar to word processing
– Open Existing presentation

Adding Text to a slide• To add text, you must have a text
box
• To add a text box, – Insert
– Text Box
– Click on slide
– And drag
• Design template sets up text boxes for you

Types of Placeholder Text
– Click and type• Simply click in the placeholder text box
and type your text• If you don’t type anything, nothing
appears in the presentation
– Highlight and type• Text is already in place
• Suggests words for the text• Suggested text will show in the
presentation if not replaced

• Slide layout positions elements on your
slide
• Makes it easier to add elements
• Will appear on outline view
What are types of slide layout?
• Already used:
– Title slide
– Bulleted list
• Look on the next couple of slides for
layouts
2 column bulleted list
• This layout has two
columns
• This is column two
• This layout is good for
lists with short bullets
such as a list of
materials needed for
an experiment
This one just has a title text box
2 column with element shortcuts
• Column one is for
bullets
• Column two for things
like pictures, graphs,
movies etc
• Just click on a short
cut and add the
element

Slide Sorter View
• This view will show all slides in the presentation
• You can add transitions
• You can preview the slide animation and transition– Click the icon under the slide
• You can move slides – Click and drag
– A line appears where the slide will appear
• You can delete slides

• In 2007and newer
– Click on View Tab
– Click on Slide Sorter
Selecting Slides
• Selecting slides (or files) next to each other (contiguous):
– Click on the first or last slide
– Hold down the shift key
– Click on the last or first slide
• Selecting slides (or files) not next to each other:
– Click on a slide
– Hold down the CTRL key
– Click on the other slides you want to select

contiguous
• Use CTRL to select slides that are not
contiguous
Remember Hyperlinks?• Last week we made hyperlinks.
– Highlight text
– Right click, Link
– Paste the web address in the dialog box
• You can hyperlink slides
– Highlight text
– Right click, Link
– In dialog box, click on “Place in this
document” found on the left side
– Click on slide to which you want to hyperlink
