Welcome to the 6th Annual PowerPak Bull Sale!!

The PowerPak bull breeders are pleased to bring

you another great set of Red and Black Simmental and

Red Angus bulls for our 6th annual sale.

What a strong calf market we had this fall, and with

the North American cowherd due to bottom out in 2013

we can look forward to the prices holding and increas-

ing. I’m sure many of you received more for your calves

last fall than you ever expected. It was very obvious that

the big, soggy calves returned the most money. We are

in a large cattle feeding area so there is a constant

demand for calves that will perform well for the feedlot

operator and for the packer. These young bulls have

great value and your older bulls that need culling will

pay a good portion of their purchase price.

These high prices make it difficult to start saving

replacement heifers and building your herd but what

better time. The F1 heifers produced by these bulls will

increase the production of your herd by increasing fertil-

ity, growth and carcass characteristics and of course

hybrid vigor. The dams of these bulls were selected for

strong maternal characteristics and they will pass that

on to their daughters.

Most of the bulls sold over the last several years

have gone to repeat buyers, a testament that the pur-

chasers were happy with them and we sincerely appreci-

ate this confidence in our programs.

This might be a good year to get your bull buying

done early because as we get on into spring, prices will

tend to skyrocket. A PowerPak bull is a good investment

and the breeders stand behind their product.

See you at the sale for an opportunity to buy a

great bull and remember Tony’s barbeque beef and

PowerPak hospitality at the conclusion.

Sincerely

The PowerPak Bull Sale Group

BW: Birth Weight - Larger value indicates heavier birthweights, lower value indicates lighter birth weight.

WW: Weaning Weight - Higher weaning EPD’s predict higherweaning weights.

YW: Yearling Weight - Higher yearling EPD’s indicate greaterexpected yearling weights.

MCE: Maternal Calving Ease - The larger EPD indicates ahigher % of unassisted births for calves born out of thissire’s daughters.

MWW: Maternal Weaning Weight - A larger EPD indicatesgreater weaning weight for the calves from the daughtersof this sire.

Simmental Breed Average EPD’s:

CE BW WW YW MCE MWW Milk5.6 2.6 36.4 61.5 5.3 25.0 6.8

The Breed Average EPD’s are compiled from the total number ofSimmental calves registered up to the end of 2011 and are thenumbers to compare the bulls in this catalogue to.

EPD = Expected Progeny Differences

BW: This value predicts the difference in avg. birth weight of a

bull’s calves compared to breed averages.

WW: Indicates the ability of a sire’s calves to grow from birth to

weaning (expressed in pounds).

YW: Growth from birth to yearling (expressed in pounds)

Milk: A reflection of the milking ability of a bull’s daughters. It com-

pares the difference in gain between birth to weaning of a

bull’s daughter’s calves compared to the calves from daugh-

ters of other sires evaluated.

TM: Calculated by using 1/2 WW + Milk.

Predicts weaning weight on a bull’s daughter’s calves.

EPD’s are predictions on how each bull rates against his own

contemporary group and the rest of the breed. EPD’s evaluate

group averages and offspring’s performance, however they cannot

predict individual performance or weights.

For example, if Bull A (WW EPD of +10) & Bull B (WW of +60)

were randomly mated with 10 similar cows, we would expect the

group avg. weaning weight of Bull A’s offspring to be 50 lbs. lighter

than Bull B’s (60 - 10 = 50).

BARBEqUE- TO-YOU!!

For the third year we are proud to present to you our“Barbeque-To-You” charity auction item. This year we have cho-sen the Canadian Cancer Society (Alberta / NWT Division).Within the Cancer Society we are delegating the donated funds gotowards their Financial Assistance Program which provides sup-port to people in financial need for the transportation and accom-modation when traveling to and from cancer treatments or appoint-ments at cancer treatment facilities in Alberta. We all know ofsomeone dear that has been touched with this disease and how itcan affect families and loved ones. Through this program most ofthe funds are dedicated to rural families in Alberta and NWT,soin supporting this barbecue you are supporting us all.

Once again, the PowerPak crew will donate two SterlingSilver prime rib roasts, as well as the barbeque, briquettes,Tony’s “Secret Sauce” and his time to travel to your Barbequefunction (family re-union, staff party) and serve them to yourguests. These two roasts will feed approximately 50 people.

If you are having a function that needs to feed more than 50people, don’t worry - we can cook enough meat on this barbequeto feed 300 people. So if there is a wedding, family reunion, or anyother party in your plans, you supply the extra meat and Tony willcook it up at no extra cost. Here is a chance to have a wonderfulbarbeque, as big or as small as you like.

All the proceeds of the “Donation Lot” will go to the

Canadian Cancer Society (Alberta / NWT) Division here in

Lethbridge.

Assistance if you need it! The Financial AssistanceProgram is one of the support services offered by the CanadianCancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division. The program gives supportto people in financial need for transportation and accommodationwhen travelling to and from treatments and appointments at cancertreatment facilities in Alberta.

– Financial Support –

The amount of financial support available depends on your:• household income• distance from the cancer centre where treatment will be received• additional medical expenses• extenuating circumstances

Based on an assessment of means through the applicationprocess, you must demonstrate financial need for the program. Asituational assessment will be conducted, taking into account fac-tors affecting current financial status, including net income, numberof dependents, travel distance, and extenuating circumstances. Ifyou wish, you may apply a portion of your approved assistance toexpenses incurred by a caregiver, up to the maximum assistanceamount.

This program has limited resources and may not cover a per-son's total costs. However, we make every effort to relieve thefinancial hardship that may be associated with traveling to attendtreatment.

A brief overview of the “Financial Assistance” Program

Help us raise some money to go to a good cause which

has an effect on everyone in this community!

Thank you for helping the PowerPak crew support this great foun-dation. Spread the word and come to Fort Macleod on Family Dayfor this special event.

This is the first calf crop out of Nophalt. He is passing on his great

depth of rib, exceptional length, and dark red color to his calves. We

used him mainly on the second calf heifers as well as a few select cows.

His calves averaged 90 pounds at birth and had the second highest

Average Daily Gain to Weaning of all the sires we used. We look for-

ward to seeing how these bulls and their sisters turn out down the road.

We think he will have a positive impact on our herd.

What can we say about Flanna other than we are very proud to

have been the breeder that produced her. She has had a huge impact

on every herd that she has progeny in. She is the cow that our herd is

centered on. Seven of our nineteen bulls are descendants of 5F, one an

embryo calf, two out of daughters, and four out of grand daughters. It

doesn’t matter if they come out red or black, they are good productive

cattle. If you don’t have any 5F influence in your herd, it’s time. If you

do, then you know the benefits of having 5F in the pedigree. Don’t let

her milk EPD worry you. She had more milk than any of her calves

could handle, and she has passed a lot of that milk onto her progeny.

[email protected] www.twinbuttesim.comWelcome Everyone to the Sixth Annual PowerPak Bull Sale!

Now is a good time to be in the cattle business. Prices are reflecting the work we putinto our cow herds and those of you that sold your calves last fall are more than likely verypleased with the cheque you took home. Those that carry their calves over to finish will bepaid very well for your extra work. Cull cow and bull prices are very strong, and if the projec-tions are correct, they will be even stronger in the near future.

The spring of 2011 was tough, if you can call it spring. I feel for those of you who calvein April and May. You had some harsh weather. But once summer came, it was great catchup weather. The fall here was a great working and grazing fall. We kept the calves on the cows until October 2nd this year. The pastures were good and the

calves gained well. We did not creep feed at all this year, so the bulls did it themselves with the help of their mama’s.All natural production. We have a strong group of bulls this year. With the slow spring, they caught up well on summergrass. As always they have been culled hard for foot and leg structure. There dam’s all have very good udders. Andwhen you walk through them you will see how quiet they are.

We invite you to come and view the bulls and their dams before the sale. We are proud of our herd that we havework for the past 25 years to produce. Feel free to question us on the bulls, their dams and sires, and our feeding pro-gram. We are in this business because we enjoy working with our customers to produce a very saleable product foryour chosen market.

We look forward to working with you into the future.

5Y is a smooth made bull. Red, long as a freight train, and deep.

Out of a first calf heifer that is a granddaughter of Flanna.

Here is a big, soggy type of bull that has the depth that Nophalt

exhibits. He is wide over the top and carries his width down through his

quarter.

10Y’s dam, 63S, is a big quiet cow that brings in a big strapping calf

every fall. I am sure 10Y will be a favourite Sale Day!

We used Red Teddy on our Red first calvers. He calved very easy,

with his heifers averaging 68 pounds and his bulls 79 pounds. I never

helped one of his calves at birth.

The dam, 48W is a great young cow with loads of milk and a beau-

tiful udder.

8Y will be an easy calver. I would use him on my heifers with

no worries.

Red Quatro has black hi-lights. He is packed with muscle and has

a good quarter and will leave some great daughters.

His dam,14R, has about as good an udder as you will find, typical

of the Pepper daughters.

A Red Teddy calf that is thick and smooth made and has very

strong maternal traits in his pedigree.

We used Red Bull to make thick, red, polled bulls and it worked!!

27Y is a wide topped, thick bugger.

I really like 56S, the dam in this pedigree. She is just the right size,

great udder, quiet, very good foot and leg structure. 27Y looks a lot like

her.

WOW!! Liked by everyone who has seen him, 29Y

is wide topped, deep throughout, packed full of meat,

and set up on big strong feet. He is the top performing

bull in the pen - a real “red power” bull. 28S is built in

the image of Flanna herself. Once again, the milk EPD

is way out there, the Flanna daughters have more milk

than their calves can handle.

DEFINITE HERD SIRE PROSPECT!!

Those of you who have been wanting a bull out of Flanna, here is

the perfect opportunity! And - as expected - he is a good one too!! The

recip who raised him was a little heads up and she has passed a little of

that on to him as well.

45Y will leave you tremendous daughters and his bull calves will go

on to be very good feeders.

Mike, you have been asking for him... well, here he is!

If you are looking for a blaze faced bull to put on your cows to make

big strapping calves in the fall, here he is! This is a cow bull with per-

formance and milk. Keep his daughters, they will be good ones.

67K, 53Y’s dam, is a massive bodied, black blaze face cow that’s

12 years old and still raises one of the best calves every year.

53Y is a thick, deep bull which will make his mark in your herd and

bring some real longevity in his pedigree.

We bought 192T out of the Shoderee Dispersal so that we could

produce some good halfblood bulls. When you see 54Y you will see that

the cross between her and Nophalt worked very well toward our goal.

54Y is a dark red bull that exhibits his sire’s depth of rib and width

over the top and is out of a dam,192T, that has a lot of milk and a very

nice udder.

Another good Red Teddy bull calf that we would use in our

heifer pen. 59Y has a lot of milk on the dam side of the pedigree and

should leave you some good females.

BBS Mr Pepper J34, a bull known for the females he sires, and MFL

Universe, one of the top cow makers in the breed makes 86Y a great

bull to build your herd from!

12Y is a bull that could work in the heifer pen yet has the power

and performance to work well on cows. He is out of a top cow and will

carry her maternal traits through to his calves.

Black Java has worked very well for us and Spring Point Colony -

ask Mike and Mark what they think of his performance.

27S is a real nice small framed, black cow that raises a good calf

every year. 89Y will not get big but he will make pounds and great cows.

Quiet, thick, long, and good.

24S is one of my favorite cows in our herd. Once again a daughter

of Flanna, she is the black version of 28S.

20Y is out of Black Joker, a bull that produces probably the most

sought after females in the Black Simmental industry. Here is a bull that

could be used in any purebred or commercial herd to produce an excel-

lent group of mama cows. We are using a full brother to 20Y in our

heifer pen very successfully. He is a little smaller framed, but he has

it all in the right places.

22Y is a true curve bender with his EPD’s, plus calving ease, per-

formance, and milk, and great eye appeal to boot... what a package!

His dam, 7P, is a great cow with a super udder and goes back to

19G who is still producing at 15 years old!

On paper this bull is hard to top. In real life he will give them a run

as well. Take a close look!!

Here is the first bull Tannis has brought to town! 79Y is out of her

4-H heifer, 26U, who has some great longevity and maternal strength in

her pedigree. 79Y will sire some good females!

We used Black Java in our heifer pen for three years, never once

having to help with a calving. He was most likely the easiest calving bull

we will ever have on the place. But that is not all, ask Mike and Mark

how his calves did in the feed lot.

24Y will have more performance than his sire but should still calve

very easy as well!

We have used Red Teddy in our A.I. program since the 2009 breed-

ing season. We chose him because he homozygous polled, solid red,

and is a calving ease sire with reasonable numbers for growth.

In 2012 we are calving out his heifers and so far they have all

calved unassisted, have excellent udders, and are very good mothers.

Teddy calves are deep in the girth, very long and have excellent

hair coats.

Welcome to our 6th Annual Powerpak Sale!!

We have 11 yearling bulls in the sale this

year. Since weaning in mid-September, the bulls

were worked up to 10 pounds of rolled barley per

day and free choice long hay. We want our bulls

to walk your pastures for many years, so they

are not pushed hard, just steady until Sale Day.

We would welcome a visit from you prior to the

sale to check out the bulls and their mother’s.

Your Success is our Success!!

Over the years we have strived to produce bulls that come easy,

and then gain, gain, gain. X-Tra Max fits this bill! He is out of a deep

bodied, nice uddered, fullblood female that has proven herself time and

time again.

His sire, “Red Teddy” is known for his calving ease, and his above

average weaning weights. Excellent depth and thickness in this bull!

“Body Builder” is one of the most recognized bulls in the breed for

putting depth and thickness into his calves and also for the excellent

daughters he produces.

If you are looking for a bull that will pack the pounds into your

calves, check out “X-Tra Black 44X!

“Yogi” has the highest EPD for Calving Ease in our offering.

His pedigree goes back to one of the first black cows that we

raised. Good length, great hair coat and excellent calving ease make

“Yogi” a great herdsire prospect.

“Red Yale” is a first calf for this young mom and what a great job

she did!! ”7Y” ranked well among the bulls for weaning weight. He is

sired by “Red Ace”, a Calving Ease sire with good growth traits.

Check out his birthweight too... he is a keeper!!

We used “10Y’s” sire, “Mutombo”, because of his excellent growth

EPD’s of 54.9 WW and 101.7 YW. He is very long and shows great

depth.

“Red York’s” dam, 10K, is the grandma of the herd and, att 11 years

old, she is still producing top calves.

A complete package in this bull!!

The pedigree of this bull may look familiar as it is the same as one

of our high selling bulls in last year’s sale. This combination of the top

gaining “Top Gun” with a “Body Builder” female, just works! Like they

say…”If it ain’t broke… don’t fix it!!”

A deep bodied “Top Gun” son that is a full brother to one of our high

selling bulls last year. “Yard Boss” is out of one of our most productive

females – she is easy keeping and has an excellent udder even at 8

years of age.

A great combination for a HERDSIRE PROSPECT here!! Be sure

to keep his heifers too.

“Red Yuma” is 5 generations red so he should definitely hold the

color in his calves!! His sire is a “Top Gun” son that exhibits great length

and depth.

Low birthweight on this bull and an excellent hair coat!!

“Yosemite”, a deep bodied, thick bull following in the footsteps of his

sire, “King Arthur,” is a solid red homo-polled bull with good length and

excellent growth EPD’s.

“15Y’s” dam has had all of her daughter’s retained in the herd and

she has had two other bull calves sell as herdsires as well. A top pro-

ducer with lots of milk!

It’s bull sale time again and we look forward to joining Twin ButteSimmentals, NHD Simmentals and Yarrow Creek Red Angus for the Family Day,“Power Pak” Bull Sale.

This will be the last chance to buy a J Anchor Simmental bull as we havedispersed our cowherd and we are starting to think about taking it easy. As usualthe bulls will be ultrasounded so we know what is under the hide and they willbe semen tested prior to the sale.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our previous bull buyers. We hope the calves they produced met with your approval and that females thatyou might have added to your herd have increased marbling, muscling, femini-inity and disposition. As I have mentioned before, raising bulls is not easy andwe, as purebred breeders, continually try to produce a better bull. This cattlebusiness is only going to get stronger and stronger over the next 5-10 years andwe wish you all the very best.

HAPPY TRAILS!

The sire of these last three bulls, we bought from SpringCreek

Simmentals and this is his first set of calves and they have been impres-

sive. They calf easy, have lots of eye appeal, good feet and legs.

The dam of this bull is a Sim/Angus hybrid. A good uddered cow,

good feet and legs of medium stature.

This bull should have strong carcass characteristics.

The sire, Springcreek Blk Tank 145W, has grown out to be a

tremendous looking bull and is a tremendous breeder, breeding over 70

cows as a 2 year old.

These SpringCreek Tank calves have tremendous disposition!

lot #41

Care of young bulls after their first breeding season is

important. Bulls should weigh 75 to 80 percent of their matureweight at the start of the second breeding season. If matureweight of the young bulls is estimated to be 2000lbs and at thebeginning of their first breeding season they are 1300(65% ofmature wt) pounds and they loose 200lbs during the first breed-ing season, then to be 75% to 80% of their mature weight by thestart of the next breeding season, it calculates that they need togain 400 – 500 lbs.

Between the end of their first breeding season and the startof their second breeding season, these young bulls need to gainabout 2lb/day. Young bulls will need some supplemental energyand protein before the second breeding season.

Consider not trying to wait until right prior to the secondbreeding season to get young bulls back in their working clothesand at the desirable weight.

For a spring breeding season, consider feeding these bullssome protein and energy beginning about Christmas time.Starting this early allows you to put weight back on graduallywith smaller amounts of a high energy feed.

This doesn’t suggest young bulls be pampered in an artifi-cial environment. It does suggest to at least give them a chanceto be productive and remain in the herd as long as you wantthem.

The bull battery is an expensive investment so you want togive these young bulls the extra care and attention they need.Just overwintering them with the mature herd bulls is not goodenough to have them “locked and loaded” for the next breedingseason.

Sire of Lots #42 - #51. At the end of our March 2010 herd bull

buying trip we found a Shoderee Storm bigi hipped, long grandson at the

Flying K Ranch Bull sale that caught our eye. I always respected the

keen eye of Dan Sewall and knew the granddam came from one

Shoderee Ranch’s best cows, Leading Lady 80H. The sire, ML Storm

238T, comes from the Veno and McArthur Angus program at Hanna, AB,

and they cull hard so you know he had to be good. At Flying K Ranch he

has thrown more performance than they had expected.

Welcome Fellow Ranchers! Happy New Year 2012 ☺It’s amazing how fast things can change in one year. Linda’s dad, Marcel Lammers, passed

away last year - he was a mentor, friend, father, grandfather, and husband to Alice Lammers formany years. It’s amazing how much I actually learned from the old guy; he will be missed.

As I attended the Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed Feeder Sales last fall it was the firsttime in a long time that I witnessed smiling faces on all the people at Fort Macleod Auction. It’sbeen a long time coming and as cow-calf producers we appreciate it.

Well, this year I have new genetics for everyone with a new herd sire and multiple A.I. bullcalves. You will have your home work cut out for you and if you have any questions at all regard-

ing the sires please give me a callprior to the sale and I will answerthem the best I can. We weaned these bull calves on September 7 coming off grass that was starting toburn with the very hot summer we had (that was nice for a change too). All calves are vaccinated twicewith Ivomec and Boss Pour-On also during the year. No creep feeding has taken place so weaningweights are the real thing. The bulls were started slowly on just hay and moved up gradually to meet atarget of 3.0 lbs per day gain. This amount of gain grows them slowly while maturing their frame at thesame time.

Looking forward to seeing you all again this year. You can buy with confidence from Yarrow CreekRanch!Dennis & Linda

Yuri 118Y is a bull that I have been waiting for a long time for out of

my daughter Kassie’s show cow, Lydian 8L, with my very first herd sire,

Flutie, on the bottom side and Storm on the top, it made a pretty good

combination.

With a weaning weight of 708 lbs. (WW Ratio of 108) and a yearling

weight on January 7 of 1096 lbs. (YW Ratio of 110), this calf knows how

to grow!

Yogi 121Y, I think, is just like “Yogi the Bear” - thick with lots of

depth and growth. The dam is another good one from our treasured

387N herd sire.

I just can’t say enough about these Storm calves - come and see

for yourself on Sale Day!

in early January, this Storm son will get some attention!

Keep the best for the last! Storm 140Y is out of our 1H cow which

we lost in early spring so this calf had to make it on its own and he has

done an outstanding job weighing 1058 lbs. (YW Ratio 144) and he is

Cherokee 120W is a herd sire we purchased from Bligh’s in south-

western Saskatchewan. We took a very cold drive a couple of years ago

injured and we only had a few calves from him so this is your lucky day.

Last spring we really admired the impressive 511X. He is a direct

son of Red Cockburn Ribeye 308U who sold at the Soo Line Cattle Co.

half brother sold to Scott Stock Farms for $30,000 that day also.

X-Rated is a big hipped, deep ribbed bull with exceptional growth.

He weaned out at 865 lbs. in October and was weighing 1410 lbs. that

Sale Day when we purchased him. He is one of the most easy fleshing

bulls we have ever known.

The dam, Lasie 180M, an “Elite” Premier cow at Cockburn’s and

she has always been an outstanding producer. She is very deep ribbed

with a sound udder. With that combination we are confident our herd is
