Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 2013, Office 2016, Office 365
PowerCom is a PowerPoint Add‐in software. After the installation, PowerCom will appear as a new tab
at PowerPoint. You can edit your questions at PowerPoint slides and add the voting poller by using
PowerCom.

Configuration
Preferences
General tab
Switch language: Powercom is available in 9 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian,
German, Korea, Chinese, Turkish, Japanese and Polish.
Please click the drop down menu to choose the language.
Note: English is the default language. Please contact the sales to get the different language version.
Enable SMS: Start SMS function to allow RF2 and reply plus to send the text messages to the presenter.
Blink the correct answer when displaying the voting result: checked this box. Then when displaying the
voting results at slide show, the correct answer will blink.
Winner: show top: Please choose how many top participants at Winner Board will be shown.
Use Non LCD keypads for Canned question: use Powercom mini, Rf1, Reply mini gen 1 and Reply mini
plus gen 1 and 2 for Canned question.
Presentation tab
Write errors to the PowerCom log file: Check this box to allow the software to record and save as a log
file at “my documents”‐“powercom” –“log” folder.
Prompt “PowerCom Comfirmation” when start the slide show: if this box is checked, a pop up
“powercom confirmation” window will show up when you run slide show.

Show Poller Box (the vote counting box) at the extended monitor: An extra vote count box will be
added on the extended monitor.
Auto Play: Please check this box to set up the auto play script for whole slide show.
Data tab
Real time data sync: Check this box and browse the location, the software will save a back up polling
result file in your computer.
Merge with PowerClick: If checked, please fill in the location of the data from your PowerClick—the
online voting app.
Please note only single digit, multi alphanumeric and weight priority question types are available for
data merge with PowerClick—the online voting app.
If checked, during voting, please press Space Bar to show the voting result for PowerPoint voting, then
press Shift C to show the merged result. The result will have both PowerPoint voting and PowerClick
voting result merged.

Activate PowerCom needs to be activated to use the full version of the software. Please enter the license key, the
email, the organization name as shown in the screen below. Then click “activate”.
Note: Please make sure there is Internet connection when activate.

Hardware
Start base Please plug your base station into the USB port. Then click “Start Base” to open the screen below. The
information of the base station will be shown as indicated below.
USB/TCP IP: please check to choose which way of connection you will use to connect the base station to
the computer.
Channel: The channel of the base station as well as the keypads should be the same. You can change the
channel of the base station on the start base tab. Please enter the new channel number and press Enter
from your computer keyboard.
Note: the channel number for the keypads can be changed from the “change keypad channel and
address” from the Device dropdown menu.
Address Mode: there are two modes (static and dynamic) available for RF2 and Reply plus keypad.
PowerCom Mini, RF1, Reply mini gen 1 and Reply mini plus gen 1 and 2 keypads are static only.
Static: keypad has the fixed ID number. Each keypad has the unique ID number.
Dynamic: based on the sequence of connecting the base station, the keypad will be assigned with an ID
number.
Keypad Range: only the keypads from the keypad range can vote. The vote from the keypads out of
range will not be received by the base station.
Please enter the keypad range such as 1‐100 then press Enter from your computer keyboard.

Test Keypads
Please open “Test keypads” to make sure the keypads are working. Please press OK on the keypads. The
connected keypads will be shown with the color code as indicated in the screen below.
Green: Connected
Red: out of keypad range
Yellow: low battery
Duplicated keypad ID: keypad ID is duplicated.
Hardware Settings
Please set up the parameters for the base station and the keypads. Please refer to the base station and
the keypad user manual.

Disconnect base
Please choose to disconnect the base if needed.
Power off all keypads Please power off all keypads when the session ends to save the battery.

Add Canned question
Add canned questions including True/False, Yes/no, Yes/Abstain/No, ‐/neutral/+,
Agree/Disagree/Neutral, Low/Med/High
Note: Please click on the “poller” on the slide then go to Poller tab on the top menu to edit the
parameters such as Label Font, Data Font.
Add Likert scale
Add 1‐3, 1‐5,1‐7 likert scale question.

Add Single digit question
Add single answer choice question.

Add Multi Alphanumeric question
Add multiple answer choices question with up to 30 answer choices.
Note: Please click on “poller” on the slide then go to Poller tab on the top menu to edit the parameters
such as Label Font, Data Font.
Add Numeric Range question
Add Numeric Range question. Numeric Range question let the audience to enter the number within the
range. After the voting, all number will be collected and added up to get “total” and “average”.

Add Roll call
insert a slide with Roll call.
Full attendance: to show how many participants are supposed to log in. The number this will show is the
number of keypads set on the keypad range.
Log in: the number of the keypads that have logged in.
Capacity: the percentage of the participants who have logged in.
Add SMS question

Import questions from TXT file into slides
Please edit the questions at txt file. Then import the questions into slides. The question slides with a
poller will be created.
Note: Please click “export sample txt ” to export the sample that you can use as a template.

Poller wizard Poller wizard will help to convert your current slide into a question slide with a poller that can be voted.
There are 4 steps at Poller wizard.

Step 1: Set up question type
Question type: Please choose the question type for the question slide.
There are 6 question types available from Poller Wizard as below.
Single digit: The audience will choose one and only one answer choice out of up to 10 answer choices.
How to vote: Press the answer choice #. No need to press OK. For answer choice #10, please press “0” or
press “1””0” from the keypad.
Example: if choosing 1, please press 1.
Multi Alphanumeric: Audience will choose one or more than one answer choices out of up to 30 answer
choices.
How to vote:
If there are 9 or less than 9 answer choices, press answer choice # , then press OK.
Example: if choosing 1,2,3, press 123 then press OK.
If there are more than 9 answer choices, press answer choice #, the answer choice # will be separated
by “.” Or “‐“.Please press OK after entering the answer choices #.
Example: if choosing 10,11,12, please press 10‐11‐12 or 10.11.12(depending on which keypad you will
use), then press OK.
Range: Enter the number during the voting. The software will include the number you entered into the
range that has been set up before.
How to vote: press the number and then press OK.

Example: press 34,then press OK.
Election: Multiple rounds election will let the audience to vote for candidates. After each round, the
candidates will be ranked based on the number of votes they receive. Please remove some candidates
and enter the next round until one or more than one candidates are elected.
How to vote: Please enter the candidate # and separate the numbers by “.” Or “‐“. Then press OK.
Example: when choosing 1,3,14, please enter 1‐3‐14 or 1.3.14 then press OK.
Weight priority/Ranking: Ranks the answer choices in a sequence. The first place in the sequence will be
given the highest points. The second place in the sequence will be given the second highest point. And
so on. After voting, the answer choices will be ranked from the answer choice that got the highest points
to the choice with the lowest points.
How to vote:
If there are 9 or less than 9 answer choices, press answer choice # , then press OK.
Example: if choosing 1,2,3, press 123 then press OK.
If there are more than 9 answer choices, press answer choice #, the answer choice # will be separated
by “.” Or “‐“. Please press OK after entering the answer choices #.
Priority: Enters the answer choices in a particular sequence. After voting, please press Ctrl+number key
to show how audience voted for the first place in the sequence, the second pick in the sequence and so
on.
How to vote:
Please press answer choice # and then press OK.
Sample: if choosing 5,4,1, please enter 541 then press OK.
If checked, this question will be used as Demographic question to demographically analyze the other
questions. The typical demographic question is Gender, Age, Education, Marital Status, Occupation etc.
If checked, the voting will start automatically when the slide is presented. Otherwise, please press Space
bar to start the voting.
If checked, the result graph poller will NOT show up after the voting. This is usually used when you don’t
want to show the voting result to your audience. You can press D to display the result graph poller if you
change your mind and want to show the results when the voting is stopped.

If checked, the audience only can vote once. Otherwise, the audience can keep voting, their last votes
will be considered as the final answer.
Step 2: set up answer choices and the correct answer and the point
Please edit your answer choices and set up the correct answer and the points at this step.
Please enter the customized label for your answer choices at the “description” box.
Please check the box in front of the answer choice if there is a correct answer.
Please enter the points at the box after the answer choice if you want to assign the points for a correct
answer.
If checked, the answer choice that got the majority votes will be considered as the correct answer.
Please enter points into the box if needed.
Step 3: set up poller type and format

Please choose the type of poller from “Poller Type” drop down menu.
Please choose the type of data from “Data Type” drop down menu.
If checked, “Show Mean” value will be shown when displaying the voting result.
If checked, “Show Custom labels” will show instead of the default labels 1,2,3…
Please set up font, color, size of label and data by clicking “Label Settings” and “Data Settings”.

Step 4(optional): timer and music
Please browse the music file that you may want to play during polling or when displaying the result.
If checked, the music will play automatically. If unchecked, please press M to control the music to start
or stop manually.
Please enter the timer into the box. Timer will be displayed in seconds.
If “start automatically when start polling”is checked, the timer will start automatically when polling.
Otherwise, please press T to control Timer to start or stop manually.

Add Winners
Team Assignment
The audience will be divided into the teams based on the voting result. Team Assignment from Add
Winner provides up to 5 teams assignment. If more than 5 teams will be needed, please set up the team
assignment from Step 2 of Poller Wizard.
Fastest finger
Insert a slide with the Fastest finger board. The Fastest finger board will show the ranking of the
participants who have answered with the correct answer in the fastest time.
Individual Cumulative
Insert a slide with Individual cumulative scores. It will show the cumulative scores of each individual or
keypad holder from all previous questions with the correct answers and the points.
Team Scores
Insert a slide with Team scores board to show the ranking of the teams whose points will show up based
on the last question that was just voted.

Team Cumulative
Insert a slide with Team Cumulative scores board to show the rankings of the teams based on the
cumulative points each team received from all previous questions.
Add Analysis
Add Slide Comparison
Insert a slide that shows the comparison between two slides. Please choose two slides you want to
compare at the window below.
Note: Please choose two slides with the same number of answer choices.

Add Demographic comparison
Insert a slide that will show the demographic comparison between two slides.
Refresh When adding or removing answer choices, you can press “refresh” to refresh the poller and make it
consistent with the answer choices when adding or removing graphical bars of the poller.
Reset Poller Resets the poller for the next voting session.
Global Change Please change settings for all or some pollers on the Global change.
When you have focus on one of your PowerPoint slide, then you click on Global Change. The settings
from Global change will reflect the settings of your current slide.

Roster/Team
What is roster list? Roster list is the list where you can associate the keypad with the names of the audience. With a roster
list, you will be able to show the names of the audience members at the polling details or in the reports.
Assign the roster for your current presentation Please choose the roster list from the drop down menu for your presenation. If you want to vote
anonymously, please choose “None”.
How to create a roster list? 1. Please click on “Manage‐Create New Roster File”.

2. Please choose the template you want to use for the roster list file. We provide two standard
templates you can choose from. Please choose one and click “Assign”.
3. Please enter the relevant information in the below screen.
Keypad number: please enter the keypad ID number.
You can click the top menu—File and Edit to add Field or add Team or delete Field or delete row.
4. Please save your roster list file.
By default, all roster files are saved at “my documents”‐“powercom”‐“roster” folder.

Polling
Please choose demo mode or live polling for your voting session. Please choose “demo mode” if you like
to simulate the voting process without any hardware.
Demo mode will simulate the polling without hardware
Live polling with the base station connected, the system will be ready to do a polling
Note: if there is no base station connected, by default, the system will be set up as demo mode.
Polling data
Please click “Polling data” to save the polling data file (the xml file) for your voting session.
Reports
Office Reports Please click “office reports” to open the report center as indicated below to generate your reports.

Combine or Merge xml files. “Combine” is used for combining the xml files when one group of audience
voted for different sets of questions. “merge” is used for merging the xml files when the same set of

Special features
Absent list During the slide show, please press short cut key “A” from the keyboard to open Absent list. Absent list
shows the list of the keypads whose votes have not been received yet. When the vote is received, the
keypad ID will be removed from the absent list.

Link Poller to slide
If there is no enough left for a poller on the question slide, please create the poller on the second slide
and link poller to the previous question slide. During the polling, the question and the answers will be
shown on the first slide, the polling result will be displayed on the second slide.

Impromptu During the slide show, you can add more questions with or without poller without exiting slide show by
using Impromptu.
Press the short cut key “I” from your computer keyboard or choose “impromptu” from poller box
control panel to open Impromptu menu as below.
Please type in the questions and the answers or copy from your current slide.
How to add the polling to your PowerPoint?
Add the new slide You can add the new slide with the poller from “add slide”. Add slide will help to insert a new slide with
poller.
Add the poller to your existing question slide If you already have question slides, just want to add the polling to it, please use “Poller wizard” to add
the poller to your existing question slide.
Import the questions from TXT Please import the questions from txt to slides. The new slides with poller will be created. It is efficient if
you like to create the multiple question slides at the same time.

How to poll?
Hardware preparation
Start the base station Please plug in the base station and make sure it is well connected. Please refer to “start base”
Test keypads Test keypads before the slide show. Please refer to “test keypads”.
Set up the second monitors(optional) Connect the second monitor and check “use presenter view”
Software preparation
Activate the license Activate the license to use the full version of software and all licensed keypads. Please refer to Activate.
Set up the keypad range Please set up the proper keypad range at Test keypads screen. The keypads out of range will not be
received.
Assign the roster file(optional) Assign the roster file if needed. Please refer to Roster/Teams.
Navigation during the polling
How to start the polling? Press F5 or click “slide show” icon from the menu to enter the slide show.
There will be a “powercom confirmation” pop up screen to provide 3 options to start your polling.
Create a new session starting from the first slide
Continue the session from the current slide
Continue the session from the previously completed slide

Note: If you don’t like to have this “powercom confirmation” pop up screen, please go to Preference to
uncheck the box “prompt powercom confirmation” when start the slide show”. Before you uncheck it,
please choose “create a new session starting from the first slide” on powercom confirmation. Then your
slide show will always start from the first slide.
Press Space Bar to navigate Please use Space bar to start the polling, stop the polling, display the polling result, and go to the next
slide.

Poller box and control panel During the polling, there will be a green box at the down right corner of your screen as below.
The number shown up there is the vote count to show how many votes have been received.
When the polling stops, the poller box will show “stop”.
When display the polling result, the poller box will show “display”.
Please click on M on Poller box to open the control panel when the polling status is stop or display. From
the control panel, you can choose more functions to show the polling result.
Control panel menu:
Previous Question Review: will open a pop up screen to display the previous questions polling result.

Winner Board: during the slide show, when polling stops or display, press W to open Winner board
screen as below. It will show fastest finger, individual cumulative, team score, team cumulative.
Team comparison: during the slide show, when polling stops or displays, choose “team comparison”
from the control panel menu to open the team comparison screen.
Note: please make sure the roster file with team assignment has been assigned to the presentation.
