Power Prayers

for Discernment

Proverbs 9:10

Father, your word says that the beginning of wisdom is to fear the Lord and acknowledg-ing you in our lives brings understanding. I pray now for my adult children that they would fear you and would seek to see you in their lives. I pray they would first seek to please and honor you before seeking their own desires or seeking to please others. God, even today, may they see your glory and praise you in their lives.

Proverbs 29:20

I pray that they would not be hasty with their words but would hold back and seek wis-dom from you for words that would be helpful to build relationship instead of foolishly causing more damage.

1 Corinthians 1:20 & 1 Corinthians 3:19

Lord, make them keenly aware that, while gaining knowledge is good, their own wisdom can only take them so far. Infact, their wisdom is as foolishness in your eyes. I pray that they would see the bounty and blessings that come with walking in your ways and ac-cording to your knowledge.

1 Kings 3:9

I pray Father that my adult children would have a discerning heart, even when it comes to their work and their families. I pray they would be able to differentiate between right and wrong. I pray also that they be able to oversee with godly wisdom those areas of life which you have given them authority.

Philippians 1:9-11

I pray that their love would be steeped in knowledge and insight of you so that it would lead them toward what is best. I also ask that their endeavors to be “right” would be based on the righteousness that only comes by faith in the power of Christ’s death and resurrection so that your name would be praised, not theirs.

Look up the following verses and pray them regarding

yourself and your child.

Proverbs 2:3-5 and Proverbs 3:21 -22

God, may their hearts greatly desire wisdom and understanding from you. I pray they

would diligently seek it and ask for it, just like they would if they were looking for hidden

earthly treasures. May they recognize your wisdom as valuable and rest in knowing you

will answer that prayer.

May they find favor in the world due to wisdom and understanding that comes from you. I pray they would recognize it as coming from you and would give you honor.

Proverbs 22:17

Lastly, I pray that my children would not be foolish in rushing ahead but would listen to

the wisdom of others. Give them discernment as to the rightness of any advice they re-

ceive.
