Think On These ThingsBy Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Take It Back!
And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power. ~ Job 1:12
When we think about what the enemy has taken from us we usually think about material or soul-related things: property, money, family, friends, jobs, businesses. The enemy will also come to take away your timing.
The enemy will send people to rush you, to make you make poor decisions, to eat up your moments and your days. Before you know it you have done something rash; you have been pushed up against a wall, and you are being moved too fast to think properly or do the right things you know to do.
You must exercise counter strategies.
Slow things down. Don’t answer right away. Think things through before giving a response. Consider your options. Move things and people around to get them off balance and off your back. Take deep breaths.
Don’t let anything or anybody rush you or make you move faster than your instincts or your analytical abilities tell you. Listen to your spirit.
Start dictating and stop reacting. Determine how things go and operate. You set the meeting time. You establish the guidelines and deadlines. You take the time to look at things closely. Gather all the information and truths you need to make decisions. Take time to reflect on past decisions and moves and how they will affect your present situation.
Take control back. Establish your authority in your space.
If you are leading people, you need to be clear headed. You can’t lead in confusion and chaos. Make people stop and listen. If they talk over you – keep talking. If they stand over you – make them sit down. If they are yelling – speak in a low slow voice. Get their attention and take the control back.
Move at the pace that is best for you. Seek guidance from the Holy Spirit in the moment. Remember God has the power and He has given it to you. Take it back!

Bishop William p. DeVeauxa TrailBlazer for GoD!
The 2nd Episcopal District is blessed to welcome home one of its son’s, Bishop William P. DeVeaux and his wife, our Episcopal Supervisor, Dr. Pam DeVeaux! The Bishop is a family man who boasts 15 grand-children. The 2nd Episcopal District includes the Baltimore Conference, Washington Conference, Virginia Conference, North Carolina and Western North Carolina Conferences.
It was the Power Magazine’s honor and good pleasure to have the Bishop share some of his thoughts on ministry with us. Bishop DeVeaux, who prior to his becoming a Bishop, was the Pastor of Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, DC. He also served at Metropolitan for 4 years as an Assistant Minister.
It was on a missionary trip to South Africa in 1986 with DeVeaux that I first got to learn of his aspirations for becoming a Bishop. It was there in Johannesburg, Lesotho, Swaziland and Zambia that DeVeaux felt the urging of God to want to lead and serve God’s people as a Bishop.
His Vision for the 2nd District is to help the ministers. “I want to help them develop their own style of leadership. I want to help our ministers develop a passion for the church they serve. To do that we must help pastors, ministers, and lay members to have a spirit of excellence for education, mission work, and to expand the Church of Allen!”
Bishop DeVeaux would like his legacy to be known for its development of Pastors!

When God gives the vision He makes the p r o v i s i o n . Tw e n t y - t h r e e years ago, the Reverend William Wingo
launched “The Power Magazine” in Harford County as a necessary instrument to inform church members about the social and religious activities in their local and surrounding communities.
Reverend Wingo was assigned to pastor Mt. Zoar African Methodist Episcopal Church in Conowingo, MD in 1990. In the tradition of that church, a member would read announcements from different churches in all sizes, shapes and colors of paper at the podium. As the reader distractingly shuffled these pieces of paper to identify and share current events, on many occasions those notices invariably took flight from the podium. As Reverend Wingo sat, squirmed and was humbled by this process, he knew in his heart that there was a more organized way to share this volume of information.
As faith would have it, God gave him the vision as he was seated in the church to birth the monthly Power Magazine for churches in Harford and Cecil counties. He had no experience in the magazine business. He had no magazine publishing skills, no money, no computer or typewriter, no typing or keyboard skills and no staff. All he had was the vision that God gave to him. As he puts it, “My goal was ministry; the magazine’s interest is spiritual. I believe that’s why God blessed me to be here twenty-two years later.”
In retrospect Reverend William Wingo says, “I thank God for my wife, Juanita, who writes an article for the magazine. We had four children at the time and she understood and supported my vision and made the sacrifice for me to invade our shared office space as I worked out of our home for 10 years.” When
asked how it might have interfered with his primary commitment as pastor, he says, “This magazine is an additional ministry to my role as pastor. I simply minister to a broader community.” He believes that “Wherever God sends you, in spite of your assignment, there’s always a hidden blessing. God may place you in a desert, but He’ll provide an oasis if you follow where he leads you.” As an entrepreneur destined to fulfill the vision God gave him, Reverend Wingo said that he sold ads during the day and did the layout of the magazine at night. Now I have sales and marketing persons, an administrative assistant and some delivery people.
Ten years on his entrepreneurial journey, God found favor in his work. He was able to move his office out of his home into his present location at 828 East Baltimore Street. The Power Magazine is now fully staffed and equipped to accommodate its estimated 30- 40,000 readers. It has approximately 25- 30 drop off spots in the Baltimore-Washington, DC metropolitan area to include diverse businesses, Christian bookstores and over 80 churches that subscribe to the publication.
If Reverend Wingo was given the opportunity to start over again, he said that the proverbial “stumbling blocks were merely stepping stones.” He admits that there were many surprises, bumps, and disappointments along the way to include computer memory loss of the entire publication, but those experiences were growing pains he had to endure. He contends, “God will make a way if you trust him. I live by HIS grace and I continue to receive His blessings.” The Power Magazine is now on the Radio every Friday at 12:00 noon on WOLB 1010 AM; www.wolbbaltimore.com, Click Listen Live to stream live broadcast; the Internet; www.thepowermag.com; Facebook and Twitter. According to Reverend Wingo, The best is yet to come!

on your Wedding!1 John 4:16-19 NIv
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love
because he first loved us.

About Robyn Scates
Robyn has always known that her life was called for a higher purpose. At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ and finding that purpose. By that age of 7, her
passion for helping others inspired her to seek a career as an attorney. She knew that being an attorney would allow her to further her passion for protecting the welfare of others. In fact, it is that very passion that led her to an accomplished career in law and business development. And it is that same dedication that roused awareness in her and, in many ways, guided her most fulfilling venture as a motivational speaker, minister, life coach and author of her first book Bringing Peace Into Your Inner Sanctuary.
Robyn simply cares about God’s people. She has spent her life uplifting and inspiring youth and adults to reach their full potential. You but have to look at what she’s done for proof of that. She is a minister, the Founder and CEO of PROUD1, a non-profit that teaches businesses, adults and youth how to be successful in business and everyday life; a life coach; a professional trainer; the general counsel and vice president of Corporate Governance and Chief Diversity Officer for a national nonprofit and she is the sole practitioner for Scates Legal Group. All of that and, somehow, she still finds time to give back to the next generation of legal minds as an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore and Morgan State University.
One might wonder how she is able to do it all. Robyn will tell you that it hasn’t
always been so easy. She learned to juggle it all after finding a way to “bring peace into her inner sanctuary.” She knows, from experience, that only through the grace of God and finding inner peace can one really endeavor to do meaningful things for others. That’s why she’s a sought after voice and trainer on the subject by churches, businesses, national organizations, having recently been a featured guest on CBS Radio in Washington, D.C. where she shared personal insights on finding peace and engaged to host her own radio show called the “Motivational Cheerleader” on Radio 1’s WOLB 1010 AM on Sundays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Robyn serves as Trustee for Everlasting Fellowship of Faith; on Boards for the University of Baltimore, Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics, the Mobile Shoebox; as former president of the Alliance of Black Woman Attorneys and she has been, twice, named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record.
Robyn holds a BA in Political Science, Juris Doctor, and is currently working on her Ph.D. She has been married for two decades and, together, she and her husband Terry have two sons.
Would you like Robyn to be your personal or professional coach or speak at your next church or corporate event? “God placed excellence within us. Some of us just need a little help finding the excellence within.” ~Robyn
