MADDIE WINES
A LOCAL transport business has been recognised for innovation and excellence at a recent awards ceremony in Melbourne.
Family-run company Power’s Country Express took out the award for innovation and excellence in workforce development in road transport presented by the Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC).
The inaugural awards aim to recognise and celebrate the dedication to skills training in the transport and logistics industry.
Power’s Country Express owner and operators Damien and Emma Power said they were thrilled to receive the national award.
“It is a great honour to receive the award,” Ms Power said.
“It’s a high recommendation for what we’ve put in place and that it is working.”
Mrs Power said the award was a testament to the quality of training and skills the employees received.
“The award advocates for us,” she said.“We don’t have to go out and advocate
for ourselves, because we can say we’ve got this and people can see we’ve taken the commitment to train staff, which is one of the keys to having qualified staff and they’re going to get work done properly.”
Power’s Country Express started in 1998 as a sole operation and has since expanded to a fleet of 30 vehicles and 36 staff in 15 years, servicing Melbourne and major Victorian centres.
The business engaged JKR Training to structure a program to suit the business and entrench workforce development as a core business component.
TLISC director Michael Kain presented the award to Damien and Emma Power and praised the couple for their successful training initiative.
“The winning initiative involved the implementation of a business-wide training regime with 90 per cent of staff who started the program completing certificates III in transport and logistics,” he said.
“Some members of the team are also studying a diploma of transport.”
