Gladys Cruz Sta. Rita (PGSR) committed to implement innovative solutions to problems that have long hounded National Power Corporation. A priority concern is the policy on disconnection for delinquent accounts in areas covered by Napocor’s Small Power Utilities Group (NPC-SPUG) after two disconnections were carried out during her first week in office. “We have had two SPUG disconnections last week. The good thing now is that after the Albay ALECO incident, all the concerned parties, including the local officials, are aware that disconnections are possible and they have to take it seriously. My instructions to the group implementing this: Make sure to inform the local officials about the disconnection notices. If I need to talk to each one of these officials, I will do it so that they would know we are determined in putting our finances in order,” PGSR declared during the flag raising ceremony held on August 12, 2013 at the head office. This is a departure from the previous practice where Napocor’s policy on disconnection became subject to political pressure, resulting to inconsistent implementation of the disconnection notices. PGSR stated that she would initiate a “continuing dialogue with the electric cooperatives with whom we are servicing” and touch base with local government executives to explain the need for payment of long overdue electric bills to Napocor. PGSR’s vow to firmly enforce Napocor’s policy on disconnections is in line with another priority – the improvement of the corporation’s collection efficiency. With Napocor’s budget up for deliberations in the House of Representatives, PGSR disclosed that the budget for 2014 “will be a struggle,” stating that “kulang ng napakalaki ang DBM recommended and submitted budget of Napocor sa Kongreso.” “This means kung hindi magbabago ang mga pangyayari, we will have to doubly tighten our belt – we need to reduce our expenses and increase our collection efficiency. We need to collect on all the obligations due to Napocor. We need to coordinate closely with the ERC so that we could get 100% of the reimbursement we submitted to them. We need to raise money, to increase the revenue stream to cover for the deficit. We need to save on MOOE to be able to (over)

provide for the benefits of the employees,” she elaborated. In order to achieve her vision for the corporation, PGSR called on the employees to support her initiatives and work towards improving the corporation’s performance. With positive thinking and prayer to the Almighty, the “wheels of change” will move. She asked for the support of each and every employee to work with her and the management committee to uplift the status of the corporation, stating: “Positibong pag-iisip at pagkilos, plus synergy and teamwork. Iyan ang iisipin at gagawin nating sama sama. Believe me, if we just sincerely and wholly put all our hearts and minds into it, that which we think of and feel for in all intensity and with the best of intentions, will come into realization.” “If you truly love this company, ang kompanyang umaruga sa iyo at sa iyong pamilya, you will completely erase from your mind the slightest thought that this company is going down. Ang itanim natin sa ating isipan: muling lalakas ang Napocor at kasama ka sa pagpapalakas ng kompanyang ito sa pamamagitan ng mabuti at mahusay na paglilingkod.”
