This specification covers 6.35/11 copper conductor, cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) insulated, copper wire screened, anti-termite treated MDPE oversheathed power cables mainly in accordance with IEC Publication 60502-2.

This insulation is recommended for operation at maximum rated conductor temperature 90. 2. CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIAL 2.1 Conductor

Conductor shall be of stranded and circular compacted conductor of plain annealed copper wires in accordance with IEC 60228.

2.2 Conductor screen An extruded semi-conducting layer shall be applied concentrically over the conductor.

A semi-conducting tape may be applied over the conductor. 2.3 Insulation

The insulation shall be of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The minimum thickness at any point shall not fall below 90% of the specified value

by more than 0.1. ( 1.09.0min ntt ) and additionally

The conductor screen, the insulation and the insulation screen shall be applied simultaneously. 2.4 Insulation screen A non-metallic extruded semi-conducting layer shall be applied concentrically over the insulation. 2.5 Metallic insulation screen

The metallic insulation screen shall comprise plain annealed copper wires. All wires shall be of the same nominal diameter. Wires shall not vary from the nominal diameter given in attached table by more than 5%. The wires shall be helically applied with a length of lay not exceeding 10 times the diameter of the core and the copper screen wires for each core shall be in intimate contact with the screen wires form adjacent cores.

  • Spec No. : GO 52CS-BD41 Date : March 25, 2014 Page : 3 / 7 2.6 Core identification (for 3cores)

The individual cores shall be identified by the narrow colored strip tapes applied over the insulation screen

    - Red, Yellow, Blue 2.7 Laying-up (for 3cores)

The required number of cores shall be cabled with non-hygroscopic fillers in round shape and a suitable tape shall be applied over the cabled core. 2.8 Oversheath

The oversheath shall be an extruded layer of black anti-termite treated MDPE compound. The minimum thickness at any point shall be not less than 80 of the specified nominal value

in attached table by more than 0.2 .

    3. MARKING The following items shall be marked on the MDPE oversheath throughout the entire length of

the cable. 1) Type of cable 2) Number of core and size of conductor 3) Manufacturer's name

    4) Year of manufacture 5) Length marking

    4. TEST

The following test shall be conducted at manufacturers works. Testing method shall be in accordance with IEC 60502-2. 4.1 Routine Tests 1) Conductor resistance test 2) A.C withstand voltage test 4.2 Sample Tests

    1) Conductor examination and check of dimensions 2) Hot-set for XLPE insulation

The cable shall be wound on reel so as to prevent damage during transportation. The following description shall be marked on a flange of the reel. 1) Direction of rotation of the reel 2) Type of cable 3) Number of conductors and conductor size 4) Length of cable 5) Net & Gross weight 6) Manufacturer's name 7) Year of manufacture 8) Reel No. (if required)
