sunset, we went straight to the Marin Headlands

for a vista of the 2.7-km Golden Gate Bridge and

San Francisco Bay Area under the golden ray of

the sun.

San Francisco in the state of California,

renowned for its pleasant weather, is geographically

dotted with 43 hills within the city limits. The

vibrant city turns livelier with clanking cable cars

crawling up and down steep hills, drawing the

attention of tourists who inevitably want to ride the

national landmark.

One of the city’s nine neighbourhoods, Nob Hill

is so steep that most tourists choose to ride cable

cars to reach the hilltop where a panoramic view of

San Francisco Bay Area is awaiting. Thai people and

tourists regularly visit the Chinatown, next to Nob

Hill, in search for fine foods. To the south of Nob

Hill is Union Square in central downtown where

hotels, theatres, department stores and upscale

boutiques are located. On the corner of Powell and

Post streets is the famous boutique of French

luggage “Goyard”. The luxurious Shreve & Co

jewellery and Wikes Bashford, the boutique for

women and men, are in this area; so as the San

Francisco branch of Thailand’s omnipresent Nai In

bookstore (1158 Sutter Street).

SOMA, referred to by the full name of South

of Market, has transformed itself from the centre of

the dot-com boom to a hub of museums such as

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Contemporary

Jewish Museum, SF Camerawork, Museum of
