API CalculationsBased on individual student scores on the:• All California Standards Test, Grades 2 – 11 • California High School Exit Exam, Grade 10
Advanced = 1,000Proficient = 875Basic = 700Below Basic = 500Far Below Basic = 200
So, if every student was advanced on every test the school’s API would be 1,000.

History of AYP
• No Child Left Behind (NCLB) -2001– Districts and schools are required to meet four sets of
targets, developed by each state, to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).
– Districts or schools that receive Title I funds and that do not meet an AYP target in two consecutive years are subject to federal action
– Scheduled for reauthorization in 2008• No reauthorization has occurred

• Participation Rate on statewide tests (95%)– California Standards Tests (CSTs)– California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
• Growth API (1 point per year or >740)• Graduation Rate (90%)• Percentage of students scoring at or above the
proficient level in English-language arts and math on statewide tests, including CAHSEE
