Ms. Potter, a Duke Law graduate and former practicing attorney in Durham, oversees NCCU’s Street Law program, which places law students in Durham Public Schools classrooms to assist teachers in teaching about the law. Students from the NCCU School of Law will serve as counselors and assist in running the day to day activities of the Law Camp. About the Law School: Since its creation in 1939, The NCCU School of Law has been a vital and progressive force in the southeast. Founded as a school for African- Americans, the School of Law today consists of an integrated student body and is one of the most diverse in the United States. Throughout the Law School’s history, its graduates have achieved acclaim as private practitioners, elected officials, legislators, and business leaders. The School of Law is fully accredited by the North Carolina State Bar Council and by the American Bar Association. The School of Law inaugurated an evening program in January 1981. About the Camp: The goal of the camp is to offer participants exposure to the field of law. This includes:• an overview of the legal system and a description of our courts• guest lectures by professors, area attorneys

and judges• information about legal careers and preparing for law school• an introduction to legal research using the

NCCU law library• a visit to the Durham courthouse• small group break-outs with law student

counselors, fun activities and competitions• preparation for and participation in a mock trial
