    Hooded Scarf

An alternative to the hat and scarf combo, this scarf actually looks like there is a really coolhooded sweater hiding under your coat. And its warmer than a scarf and hat because there is no

gap at the back of your neck. Super-warm and super-fashionable? Oh yes!

    (See chart)

Seed Stitch (over an odd number of stitches)

All Rows *K1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, k1.

    PATTERN NOTE

The Hood is knit first, then seamed along the center

back. The scarf is knit by picking up along the Hoods

neck edge, by casting on extra stitches at each edge,

and then working down from these stitches.

    DESIGNED BY CADDY

    ,

    HOOD

    Long-tail cast on 70 stitches.

Beginning with row 1, work from simple cable chart

until piece measures 9 12" (24cm). End after working a

    WS row.

    Bind off knitwise.

Fold Hood in half along cast-on edge. Sew folded cast-

on edges together to form center back seam.

    SCARVES

    TECHNIQUE

Rather than one long scarf, there are 3 scarves (at

    each end) that are braided.

With RS facing and beginning at bound-off edge, pick

up and knit 2 stitches for every 3 rows along entire

    neck edge of Hood.

Count stitches. Decrease evenly over center of next

row, if needed, to an odd number of stitches.

*Next 2 RowsE-wrap cast on 72 stitches. Turn. Work

    seed stitch to end.

Continue in seed stitch to 1 34" (4.5cm). End after

    working a RS row.

Bind off 72 stitches in pattern at beginning of next 2 rows.

Repeat from * twice more, binding off all stitches at

    end of third scarf.

    FINISHING

Loosely braid 3 scarf pieces of each side. Secure

bottom of braids by wrapping and tying a piece of

    yarn around its end.

With WS facing, weave elastic along entire neck

edge of Hood. Try the garment on, and pull elastic to

achieve desired fit. Weave ends of elastic back along

neck edge to center, and knot them together.
