Isolator Device Load Calculation

This sction cors th distinction btwn an addrssabl snsor and an isolator to corrctly calculat th total SLC dic load.

A dic uss an addrss and consums powr. Whras, an isolator dos not us an addrss, but dos consum powr.

Th following scnarios xplain how to calculat th currnt dic load basd on th SLC conguration.

Scenario 1: Class A Loop – Isolated Devices Conguration

In this conguration, ach snsor and isolator dic / modul counts as on (1) whn calculating th total dic load.

Formula: Total # addressable devices + Total # isolators = Total power unit allocations (or device load)

Example of a Class A Loop – Isolated BranchesFigure 3.

Conguration Summary:

Total addressable devices = 8 (sensors only) out of 75 possible addressable points.

Total device load = 17 (calculated as follows: 8 sensors + 9 isolators) out of 127 power unit allocations.

Example: If a conguration uses 75 sensors, up to 52 isolators may be supported.

Solution: 127 - 75 = 52

Scenario 2: Class B Loop – Isolated Branch Conguration

In this conguration, thr ar 4 sparat branchs ach with an isolation dic / modul and 1 or mor snsors. each snsor

rquirs an addrss, as shown in Scnario #1 (isolators do not rquir an addrss). Howr, in this scnario, ach isolator

consums powr qual to 8 dics. To calculat th total dic load, rfr to th following rul:

Device Load Rule for Branch Congurations

Count all dics, including isolators, on th branch.

If th count is <=8, allocat 8 as th dic load.•

If th count is >8, allocat th actual dic count numbr.•

Example of a Class B Loop – Isolated BranchesFigure 4.

Conguration Summary:

Branch #1 has 3 dics = 8 powr allocations

Branch #2 has 2 dics = 8 powr allocations

Branch #3 has 10 dics = 10 powr allocations

Branch #4 has 4 dics = 8 powr allocations

Total addressable devices = 15 (sensors only) out of 75 addressable points.

Programming Overview

Th LEARN function is aailabl through th control panl, and is an fcint way to automatically congur all systm dics.

LEARN dtcts all connctd dics, assigns a nam and slcts th applicabl dic typ (i.e., module, sensor or P-Link

device). Th systm conguration mirrors a basic r protction systm whr all inputs and outputs ar a on-to-on rlationship.

Th panel conguration software allows custom programming and conguration for all points ia a ntwork or rmot

computr. At th click of a mous, you may n-tun dic bhaior charactristics or crat mapping zons for a mor

sophisticatd r protction systm. By using th systm softwar, you will raliz th powr and xibility of th PFC-6075R

system. (Please refer to “Panel Software Overview” and “Mapping Zones” in this section for details on these procedures.)

The Programming Cycle

Th following is a rcommndd approach to programming th systm:

Install Softwar1.

Addrss and Install SLCs2.

Run LeARN3.

Connct ethrnt Cabl4.

Upload Data to Computr 5.

Program th Systm6.

Download Conguration Fil7.

Note: This approach may liminat programming rrors, howr, ths ar only rcommndations.

Software Installation

It's asy to install th PFC-6075R softwar and rquirs only a fw minuts to complt. Onc don, th program automatically

crats a shortcut icon on your dsktop for asy accss.

Th systm softwar is compatibl with Windows XP, Windows vista and Windows 7 Oprating Systms, and incorporats

conntional shortcuts and faturs (i.e., right click to display short cut menus, drag and drop, etc.). Th softwar’s xibility

nabls you to ffctily program indiidual and/or groups of dics. Sral xampls in conguring a basic r systm ar

proidd latr in this sction undr th “System Programming ” hading.

Note: Th latst rsion of Microsoft .NeT Framwork is rquird.

To install the software:Accss th Pottr wbsit aty www.pottersignal.com, and go to th "Fire Alarm Systems" link, thn click th "Fire Panel

System Programming

Systm programming inols dning th function of dics and thir rlationships to ach othr, rfrrd to as mapping. You

can dn bhaior charactristics of indiidual or groups of dics, map dics into zons, and furthr customiz your systm

using th panl conguration softwar from a computr.

Th panl conguration softwar faturs includ:

easy to us Windows-basd diting tchniqus, includingy drag and dr op btwn windows.

Flxibility in conguring points into multipl zons promoting sophisticatd mapping rlationships.y

Simpl sorting and grouping by slct lds nhancs iwing and analysis of data.y

Options to iw points by typ, addrss and function or dscription.y

Mapping Zones Overview

Mapping is crating rlationships btwn dics, moduls and snsors and thir bhaior btwn ach othr. Whras, th

“zon” is th framwork in which you group th dics. Ths trms and othr rlatd mapping concpts ar proidd in this

section.

Single Zones

Th LEARN fatur crats or maps a basic, on-to-on rlationship whr all dics ar automatically groupd into one

zone. Whn all dics ar in th sam zon, and an input dic is actiatd, all output dics will actiat. Plas rfr to th

Multiple Zones

Th panl conguration softwar allows you to customiz th oprational mod bhaior of dics by grouping thm into a

maximum of 99 diffrnt zons. All SLC dics, including th four (4) on-board circuits (I/Os 1 and 2, and NACs 1 and 2),

may b congurd to bha in a spcic mannr. This xibility nabls you to congur systm points to maximiz protction

throughout your sit.

By organizing dics into diffrnt zons, you can crat uniqu rlationships btwn dics for spcic outputs or nts.

Th panl conguration softwar allows you to fcintly group points to follow a squnc of nts producing th sam

combination of outputs into diffrnt zons. This sction addrsss how to accomplish ths tasks.

Mapping TerminologyTable 15:

Term Denition

Mapping Crating rlationships btwn dics, moduls and snsors and dning thir bhaior.

Zone

A group of dics.

Zons may rprsnt a group of dics locatd in a spcicy physical ara at th sit.

Example: Zon 1 comprisd of all dics locatd in th main lobby of a hotl, [i.e., pull station #1,

one (1) sounder base, and one (1) strobe-NAC].

Zons may rprsnt a st of dics congurd for a spcic function; thir location may by

scattrd throughout th sit. This group is a “logical” grouping or zon.

Example: Zon 2 comprisd of all dics in Zon 1 as dscribd abo, plus a 2nd pull station

locatd at nd of a hallway and two (2) additional Soundr bass.

Notes:

If all input / output dics ar groupd into on (1) zon, whn any input is actiatd, all outputs1.

activate.

A dic or point may b mappd into mor than on (1) zon.2.

Point Any spcic dic, modul or applianc connctd to panl.

Latching Dic will not automatically rst; dic must b RESET at th kypad to rmo condition.

Non-LatchingDic will automatically rst whn condition is no longr prsnt , i.e., smoke detector resets once

condition clears.

Cross Zoning

Th purpos of crating cross zons is to nsur that two (2) or mor sparat zons ar actiatd bfor

an output zon is triggrd.

Example: Smok dtctor in Zon 1 (R&D Lab), and a hat dtctor in Zon 2 (Main ntranc) ar

actiatd, triggrs an air handlr circuit.

Th rdundancy in this xampl proids rication of an alarm condition by rquiring that bothy

snsors in two (2) diffrnt zons ar actiatd bfor an output occurs.Thr ar no limits to th numbr of cross zons that can b mappd to th sam output; as soon as ay

pair of input dics dtcts an “alarm” condition, th output will b actiatd.

Zone Types / Styles

You may dn or congur ach zon to sr a spcic purpos or to crat spcic output rsults. For procdurs on how to
