Minnesota Education Corps (MEC)
Seeking individual for full-time, limited-term Program Coordinator position with Minnesota
Reading Corps. This position runs approximately 3/1/11 5/31/11 with possibility of
continuation beyond that end date. This position is benefits eligible.
The vision of Minnesota Reading Corps is that all children will become proficient readers by theend of 3rd grade. Rigorously trained members work with children from age three to grade three
who are struggling in reading. Using the latest research on reading interventions and
assessment, AmeriCorps members provide tutoring to give students the extra boost they need to
become successful readers. This Program Coordinator position is responsible for recruiting and
selecting a cohort of members and sites and then providing support to them to ensure the
program is being successfully implemented.
Specific responsibilities of the Program Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment & Selection: Collaborate with Reading Corps team on member recruitment andselection, which includes screening, interviewing and placing members.
Site Technical Assistance and Member Support: Develop and maintain relationships with sites,including principals, internal coaches and members. Serve as primary contact for a cohort of
approximately 70-80 members. Work closely with all partners to ensure collaborative process and
communication between partners. Conduct site visits as necessary with members and internal
coaches. Conduct quarterly phone check-ins with internal coaches regarding site implementation
and member progress on program requirements. Coordinate weekly updates to members and
monthly updates to internal coaches to highlight news, updates and member stories.
Member Professional Development: Provide staffing and input for member professionaldevelopment over the course of the year.
Other Duties: Attend regular meetings, including metro team meetings, Reading Corps staffmeetings, and Minnesota Education Corps staff meetings; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for this position include:
Bachelors degree in nonprofit management, business, education or related field and minimum 1year experience in program coordination. Previous national service experience highly desirable.
Experience with recruitment and selection, preferably in a nonprofit or government setting. Demonstrated success in creating partnerships and working in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated success in balancing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with diverse communities. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills. Superior organizational skills
Computer skills, including experience with MS Office software, email and internet. Previousdatabase experience preferred.
Familiarity with or interest in literacy, education, and/or social causes. Ability to travel to various locations across the metro area.
