What we do

We provide administrative support for research students and associated staff across the University, including:

managing academic progression (formal progression, examination, etc.)

changes of plan (leave of absence, extension, etc.)

scholarships and funding

We also monitor and maintain the University policies and procedures relating to research students, including the Policy on Research Degrees.

Completing forms in SkillsForge

Agree in the meeting who will be responsible for completing the form.

Nominated person completes form and saves, only, and notifies the next person that the form is ready for their contribution.

Once all parties have added their comments, and the form reaches the final person in the group, that individual should then initiate the sign-off process.

Signing a form entails a three stage process:

1. Click against your name at the bottom of the form

2. Click ‘sign’ underneath the list of signatories

3. Save by clicking ‘Save’ or ‘Confirm’ in the top right of the form

What can Colleges do for you?

• Intergenerational, interdisciplinary, international, (can’t think of anymore ‘inters’) communities.

• Meet people from outside your programme of study.

Activities • You will have access to social areas and computer rooms.

• Colleges offer a range of opportunities to socialise; present and

discuss your research; play sport or try something different.

• I never realised how much I enjoyed pumpkin carving before I became an Assistant Head of College!

• Opportunities to take your mind off work and just ‘be’.

Well-being • College Tutors – coffee; a listening ear; introduce you to

others. • College Staff – 1:2:1 support; signposting to other services. • College committees – colleges are democratic; our students

work with us to lead them. You don’t have to remember everything from today – your college team are there to signpost and offer advice when you need it!

What did you do before your PG?

What you can do for your college… • Keep doing the things that make you ‘you’ – just

because you are a PG doesn’t mean you have to stop socialising.

• Colleges are ‘alive’ – if students don’t engage then we are just a bunch of buildings.

• Your studies are important but try to look after the ‘whole you’ – do something you enjoy; go along to that cheese and wine evening…. Go and play some netball.

• Take a risk…..
