WANT TOFIND OUT MORE?

CAFÉ MASTERS AND CAFÉ PhD

Café Masters and Café PhD are informal social events designed to enable anyone interested in postgraduate study to network with current students. By attending, you will be able to get face-to-face, first-hand and impartial advice on what it’s actually like to be a postgraduate student at Birmingham.

You’ll be able to discuss any questions that you have about postgraduate study in a relaxed and social atmosphere, get expert advice on choosing the postgraduate programme that is right for you, the application process and sources of funding, and get feedback on your research proposal or personal statement. You’ll also be able to enjoy free refreshments.

You are welcome to take part no matter what stage you are at in the decision-making process. Come for the whole session, or drop in whenever you can.

We run Café events throughout the year. Check the website for details of upcoming events: www.birmingham.ac.uk/pgevents

CHAT TO US ONLINE

We run online sessions throughout the year so you can ask us questions from wherever you may be in the world. These include videos, virtual tours and live Q&A sessions with staff, current students and alumni.

Our featured postgraduate students and staff will answer your questions based on their own experience of campus life, their University school or department, the city, the transition to postgraduate study and the support services offered by the University.

Take part: pg.bham.ac.uk

‘The Guild is a democratic student-led organisation that exists independently from the University to ensure you make the most out of student life. As Postgraduate Officer here at Birmingham, I am here to support you and make sure your voice is heard.

‘I know first-hand that postgraduate study can be challenging but it’s important to remember that there’s a life outside academia. There are so many ways to get involved with your University community, such as volunteering, joining a society, or becoming a Student Rep. If you have any questions about the postgraduate community here at Birmingham, feel free to get in touch! You can find me on social media @guild_postgrad on most platforms.’

JESSICA SMALL, Postgraduate Officer at the University of Birmingham

Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2TT, United Kingdom

www.birmingham.ac.uk

Designed and printed by

By railWe are fortunate enough to have our own railway station, ‘University’. Most cross-country services to Birmingham arrive at Birmingham New Street station and up to six trains an hour depart from there for University on the cross-city line (final destination Redditch or Bromsgrove). The journey should take under ten minutes and the centre of the main campus is just a five-minute walk from University station.

Postgraduate ambassadors (wearing bright blue tops) will be at the station to direct you to campus.

By coachThere are frequent express coach services to Birmingham from most UK cities. The long-distance coach station is in Digbeth in the city centre. Regular bus services to the University (nos. 61, 63, X21 and X20) run from St Martin’s Queensway in the city centre.

By carWe strongly recommend visitors travel by public transport where possible. A limited number of parking spaces are available for visitors at North East Car Park (see campus map on page 27).
