Generation of Ideas for Ancillary Product 2) –

Poster

Ancillary product Poster

Theme IdeasIn our trailer we have used a multi stranded narrative incorporating three key events: The murder, a child being kidnapped and an affair. My poster could be promoting any of these events .1. The poster could be a close up shot of

a teddy bear in a child's hand to promote the kidnapping.

2. The poster could also be about the murder.

3. the poster could be about the affair.

I will also need to consider that the Soap is a new programme and will need to promote this by using language such as ‘NEW TO BBC2’

Synergy I will use social media to create synergy. I will use a hash tag for twitter at the bottom of the poster saying #TheWells and will have the Facebook and twitter logos/ icons at the bottom of the poster .To create synergy with my magazine I will include a magazine website on the poster for example www.tvRevealed.co.uk

TaglineThe tag line of my poster could also have synergy with my magazine and could say ‘Abducted- but whose taken holly?’ Which is the same as the main headline on the magazine.Another possible tagline could be ‘behind closed doors’ this will fit well with the multi-stranded narrative as the tagline could work with all three parts of the storyline.Alternatively the posters tagline could be ‘whose got the gun?’ as this asks the audience questions and they then want to see the programme. Also the word ‘Gun’ gives connotations of danger and drama and therefore will interest a soap opera audience.

Images 1. The image could be a close up shot of a child's teddy bear in the child's hand.

That could have a black effect on it to give the connotations of danger. 2. The image could also be a close up shot of the gun or a worms eye view as the

murdered persons perspective of the murderer holding the gun.3. could also have a long shot of the woman walking into a house.

Point of callI will include the point of call at the bottom of the poster alongside the promotion that the soap is new to BBC2. alternatively I can use the point of call image of the wells as a faded background image.it is important to include the Point of call as this will support that this is a New soap opera and will also help to create brand identity.

Mind Map - Conclusion

I will need to look for a suitable font style for my poster I will use the website ‘dafonts’ for this. I will need to get the suitable props for the images I will take, I will require the same teddy bear that was used in the filming of the trailer. I will need to arrange a date to take photos for my poster and my magazine. This can be done on the same day that we film the shots for the trailer with Neve as the little girl. My poster will have synergy with my magazine through the tagline ‘Abducted- but whose taken holly?’ I will create my poster using photo shop software because it is easy to use and gives a professional look to it also you can manipulate images without difficulty.

Social media: The use of social media will get people talking about the new soap opera.

Institution logo:This gives the viewer information on where they can view the soap also it may appeal to some people more due to ‘BBC’ channels not having adverts.

Tag line:the tag line will be the same as my magazine headline to create synergy with the 3 products (magazine, poster and trailer

Main image:The main image will be the kidnapper holding Holly’s teddy bear so that you are unable to see who it is.

Background image: the background will be a darkened image of the Arial view of The Wells Estate as this is the image on the point of call . This will create brand identity which is needed as this is a new soap opera.

Information: This is important as it is a new soap therefore it is important to state where the viewer can find it ‘BBC2’ and what date and time its on.

Tag line: the tag line will be the same as my magazine headline to create synergy with the 3 products (magazine, poster and trailer)

Main image: my main image could be Neve holding the teddy bear the viewer would just see a dangling bear and a child's had with the tagline ‘abducted’. I think this could be quite a powerful image as the bear is focused on a lot in the trailer. (e.g. when he falls to the floor)

Synergy : I will use synergy with social media. For example the hash tag will get people talking about the new soap opera online. This is also free marketing.

Institution logo:The institution logo is here to create brand identity and also due to the fact that I am

advertising a ‘NEW’ soap opera the consumer need to know where they can view the soap. Also the fact that it is going to be on BBC two may appeal to more people as there are no adverts on BBC channels.

Image: the background will be a darkened image of the Arial view of The Wells Estate as this is the image on the point of call . This will create brand identity which is needed as this is a new soap opera.

Conclusion

• In conclusion I will use the poster that has the image of the kidnapper holding the teddy bear. I have chosen this because the connotations are more chilling than the little girl holding her teddy bear and also it will not mirror the magazine images but will still connect to the magazine. The tagline will also connect them both together ‘whose taken Holly?’

• I think the use of the aerial view of the wells in the background will be very effective as it matches the point of call creating brand identity for the new soap opera.
