Questions to ask.

Page 4: Poster Analysis

1. The artist is seen in the poster which helps to advertise the artist so that when people see the album they know who the artist is (recognise his face). This shows that the artist isn’t as known as mainstream artist like Jay-Z, so by having his image it helps for fans and new audience members to recognise his face and gain knowledge of who he is.

2. The image meets the needs of the target audience by helping to sell the persona of the artist, as it is him holding a city in his hand (showing that he is about to become the biggest thing in the city he comes from). It also shows that he is a simplistic person, as he has a simple watch, a bracelet with the picture of Mary Magdeline and glasses, which shows that he has a religious side to him and that he’s laid back and enjoying what he is doing. With his clothes also being simplistic and smart, it shows that he knows what he is doing and that he is in control in what he's doing.

3. The font compliments the poster as it has a “spacey” and “out of this world” theme which shows Tinie Tempah as being unique and something like never before. It also gives him a unique selling point as it makes him different from everyone else who does music.

4. The relationship between the poster and the album strong as the album cover and the poster are exactly the same with slight alterations. This connection between the two help to make it easier for fans and people who haven't heard of Tinie Tempah to recognise him and what he does.

1. The artist is featured in the poster but in the background. The main image is the 3 red stripes across the poster. This is the design created by ROCNATION and it known everywhere and was founded by Jay-Z himself. This helps fans recognise ROCNATION logo and realise who the artist is. By him being in the background it also shows he is well known in the music industry that he doesn’t need to show himself properly.

2. The image of Jay-Z is very straight forward which portrays him to be a simplistic character. The picture portrays shades of grey which conveys Jay-Z as being a sophisticated man which all his fans know he is (business-man). With a simple chain around his neck it shows that he's not all about wealth, the glasses also show him to be laid back which helps him to relate more to his target audience.

3. The fonts help the poster as its also simplistic and makes Jay-Z come across as a plain and simple person. There is also a link between the fonts on both the poster and the album cover which helps ease the recognition of the album cover for when new fans or new customers want to purchase the CD.

4. There is a strong link between the poster and the album and that’s seen through the ROCNATION symbol/logo and through the fonts used. This helps create and show a relationship which helps recognition of the album when it’s being released.

Comparison: American and English Music Poster

1. Both these posters follow the convention of Hip-Hop/Rnb music posters as they relate to the back to the album cover which helps with recognition of the artist. Both of them have the same concept of the image, the artist looking away from the camera which helps create a mysterious feeling about the character.

2. The difference with UK and American music posters is tat UK has a lot of information on it about the release date and where you can purchase it. American music poster are the opposite, they leave the fans in suspense by having a lack of information about the artist and the album.

3. The fonts used in the American Poster are very elegant which helps portray the artist as being very stylish, which can be seen in the way he presents himself in the poster/cover whereas the UK poster is more urban which also relates to the artists dress code and the type of music he produces.

4. One thing that is the same throughout different musicians is that there is always a link between the poster and the album cover. This is to help recognition of the artist and album when being promoted.
