190/489 for ‘Tasmanian Graduates’

New rule since February 2014 - We will nominate all ‘Tasmanian graduates’ as long as you meet DIBP’s visa requirements

Don’t worry about the State Migration Plan (SMP) list. Your nominated occupation doesn’t have to be on our SMP list. For Tasmanian graduates, we will offer off-list nominations as long as your occupation is on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL)http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists/CSOL

190/489 Flow Chart

1. Complete the course (hopefully with excellent marks!)

2. Obtain a full skills assessment, take the IELTS test, etc

3. Check your eligibility for the visa (the Points Test etc) If you have an occupation on SOL and can score 60 by yourself, consider189

4. If you are not eligible for 189, check if you qualify for 489/190 or 457/187?

5. If you decide to pursue 489/190, apply for the state nomination on-line

6. Receive a notice of nomination confirmation from the Tasmanian government by email

7. Register ‘Expression of Interest – EOI’ with SkillSelect (Make sure you correctly claim your points)

8. Let Dept. of State Growth know your EOI reference number. Dept. of State Growth will then nominate you in the SkillSelect system, which will trigger an ‘invitation’ from DIBP

9. You must lodge your visa application within 60 days from the invitation

What’s good about190/489 for Tasmanian graduates?

• Your nominated occupation doesn’t have to be on SOL or SMP list but CSOL.

• In addition to 5 points for ‘Australian Study’, extra 5 points for ‘regional study’, 5 points for 190 nomination, 10 points for 489 nomination

• Within SkillSelect, you will be invited to lodge a visa application immediately when the state nomination is confirmed (For 189, there is no guarantee that you will be invited for visa lodgement)

• No occupation ceilings. 189 still has occupational ceiling arrangements.

• Priority processing – 489/190 attract higher priority than 189 at the DIBP visa processing centre
