plans around Durga Puja. Spread over 208 acres, the project includes a huge water body. Apart from this, there will be land safari, boat cruises, adventure tour-ism and a nine-hole golf course. Plans are also afoot to provide accommodation in Tiger Hill of Darjeeling so that visitors do not have to make the pre-dawn journey
from town to see the famous sunrise. The Minister further informed about
the possibility of organising a procession of the best idols post the actual five-day puja celebration.
Present at the occasion along with the Tourism Minister was A R Bardhan, Principal Secretary, Department of Tour-ism, Government of West Bengal. “TTF has grown in size over the years with the presence of so many states and neigh-bouring countries,” said Bardhan.

products for tourists. It is the trekker’s paradise. Similarly, we have pilgrimage sites for the Hindu and Buddhist tour-ists along with the gateway for Mansa-rovar. Visitors can come and experience the diversity in cultures. The people of Nepal are quite friendly. Besides, safety is another positive point that can attract more tourists to the destination.”
NTB will promote the adventure segment in the Indian market as it will strike a chord with the young audience. Efforts will also be made on tapping the metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, as well as cities of
Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmed-abad, Bhopal and Patna, exploring new avenues.
In the past decade, Indian arriv-als to Nepal were more than a hundred thousand in a year. However, the num-bers slumped in 2015 because of vari-ous reasons. “We have immediate plans to promote through participations at all major trade fairs and increase visibility through online and offline campaigns throughout India. With heavy incentives and ‘good for all seasons’ weather, the coming season is a great time for Indian travellers to restart their visit to Nepal. Delhi Tourism Minister assures industry of full support and facilitation to make Delhi a tourist friendly destinationKapil Mishra, Tourism Minister of Government of NCT Delhi inaugu-rated the Delhi edition of the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) 2017.
Speaking on the need for bet-ter cooperation between the govern-ment and tourism industry, Mishra, said, “There are certain barriers that need to be bridged which can only be done when the government and industry join hands and start working together. I appeal to the tourism indus-try to come with clear policies and sug-gestions to the Ministry and we will start working together to achieve the low hanging fruits available to us. We will make sure that GST will be imple-
mented in the right manner and that no one in the industry suffers due to it.”
Delhi, the Host State is one of the most important hubs of tourism in India, used by inbound and domes-tic tourists to move on to other desti-nations. However, the state itself has a lot to offer to tourists. Properly pack-aged and marketed, it can increase the length of stay of tourists in Delhi.
Platforms like TTF provide an oppor-tunity to project and market the state of Delhi as a comprehensive tourism des-tination, besides being a tourism hub.
“We are working alongside the Cen-tral Government to make Delhi a des-tination city, positioning it as a spir-itual and heritage circuit. I see two barriers for the tourism industry in Delhi– cleanliness and safety. I will
personally lead this campaign,” the Minister added.
Industry leaders including Manmo-han Sadana, Regional Director (North), India Tourism Delhi; Pronab Sarkar, President, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO); P P Khanna, Pres-ident, Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI); Capt. Swadesh Kumar, President, Adven-ture Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI); Praveen Chugh, Presi-dent, Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI); Subhash Goyal, Chairman, STIC Travel Group suggested strate-gies to promote tourism in Delhi.
The industry representatives also stressed on the need for lower taxa-tion to promote tourism. They recom-mended that the luxury tax in Delhi should be brought down and applied on actual rather than printed tariffs, which the Minister agreed upon. They also suggested that GST on tourism should be at the lowest slab.
