On 7 March, 2017, corporate history was made from the page to the stage, with the hosting of the first

annual Top 500 Awards.

The ceremony drew more than 60 finalists directly from the pages of our well-known annual

Top 500 publication. Winners on the night, selected through intense deliberation from the judges,

were lauded as the absolute best of the best in12 economic sectors. The highlight of the night: Anglo

American SA being crowned as the Best Managed Company in South Africa overall.

The ceremony underscored the stability and strength of corporate South Africa’s whose companies are

renowned worldwide for their stability and respected for their culture of good governance, best practice

and shrewd asset management. While South Africa may from, time to time, experience choppy waters

on the political front, these economic heavyweights continue to keep the country’s competitiveness on

an even keel.

Our Top 500 companies are also to be lauded for creating jobs, investing in SME’s and skills

development, transforming their supply chains, and partnering with the public sector to advance

national development.

They may be regarded as not just South Africa’s best managed companies but, in fact,

as some of the best managed companies in the world.

Mark Pilgrim, Radio & TV Personality

With his distinctive, warm personality and easy going demeanour, radio and TV personality Mark Pilgrim is a household name in South Africa. This multi-award winning presenter has spent over 20 years entertaining millions of listeners and viewers.

Mark is also one of South Africa’s most experienced Master of Ceremonies and has hosted hundreds of corporate events over the past two decades. He is also a well-known motivational speaker as well as an ambassador for CANSA and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of SA.

Malusi Gigaba, Minister, Home Affairs

Mr. Gigaba is the current Minister of Home Affairs for South Africa; appointed in May 2014. He is a member of the African National Congress (ANC), serving on its National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC), and is the organisation’s National Elections Co-ordinator.

He is a teacher by profession and an academic, whose passion for education as a tool for social upliftment finds its expression in his work as the Patron of the Nompumelelo Institute for Leadership.

Asher Bohbot, CEO, EOH Holdings

Mr. Bohbot serves as the Group Chief Executive Officer of EOH Holdings Limited, the largest technology company in Africa. He first arrived in SA in 1980, at the age of 27, having been born in Morocco but raised in Israel. Following a stint at AECI as a senior engineer, he joined Laminate Industries (later to be part of the PG Group) in 1981 as an industrial engineering manager.

In 1990, he was appointed as a logistics director and proceeded to rise further, taking responsibility for Group Logistics and IT at PG Bison in 1995. In 1998 Bohbot left the PG Group and started EOH, a business and technology solutions provider. In 2013 EOH was the best performing share on the JSE.
