Possibilities with Civil Engineering We, human beings have come a long way when it comes to designing and developing structures right from the very basic mud huts to world-class Taj Mahal and now the swanky green structures which are redefining the way we have seen planning, designing and erection of structures around us. And by the way who says civil engineering is all about swanky buildings alone? Take a 360 degree turn and you shall see all sorts of constructions viz. palaces, hotels, flyovers, bridges, monuments, futuristic airports and so on. It is also worth mentioning is that compared to all branches of engineering, the application of civil engineering can be seen even with the closed eyes (literally)! It is now clear that the opportunities offered or will be offered to the graduating students from this evergreen stream would be terrific. So, let’s focus on what you as a student need to be armed with if you want to get into the degree or a diploma program. A bachelor’s degree program will take around four years to complete and a diploma will take three. There’s always an option to pursue masters’ degree to get specialized knowledge and hands-on experience. What you can be really confident about is – there’s absolutely no dearth of jobs if you are well qualified in terms of not only the technical know-how but also the gamut of soft skills including communication skills, team working ability, project management and so on. To get started, you need to have studied the subjects including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the 10+2 level. The admission to the course is highly competitive. It is done mostly via common entrance examinations conducted by different states in India. Recently, I completed a pan-India visit to meet countless prospective students for Civil Engineering. I also had the opportunity of meeting numerous current students, faculty members and support staffs. I won’t hesitate in admitting that the most orgasmic moment was spent in Maharashtra where I visited best engineering colleges in Nashik. The institutes were very well ranked and respected. One of the top engineering college based out of Nashik struck me the most. World-class infrastructure, faculty members with doctorate, extremely heavy focus on industry-institute interaction, substantial investment in teaching and learning technologies, expansive research facilities are just some of the superior qualities this place offers. What got me excited even further is the cutting-edge, research-led curriculum being designed in consultation with Fortune 500 firms and leading civil

What got me excited even further is the cutting-edge, research-led curriculum being designed in consultation with Fortune 500 firms and leading civil engineering firms which would finally help the students in being recruited with ease. This top institution amongst others is investing monumental amount of time and money in building strong relationship with recruiters all over India which has resulted in students getting paid internships which helps them gain the valuable hands-on experience and not to mention these firms have indeed built a talent pipeline to feed their constant growth. I invite the prospective students from all over India to wake-up and realize the possibilities of next generation of civil engineering education. Its about being geared up not just for the jobs but for an entire lifetime. So, students should be very proactive thereby researching colleges, talking to current students, checking out the alumni, talking to faculty members so on and so forth. Getting into top engineering colleges in India might sound like a task but you got to do it and enjoy the ride. Good luck and wish you all the very best.
