POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT University of California Cooperative Extension Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Location Headquarters: Colusa County, Colusa, California CLOSING DATE: To assure full consideration, application packets must be received by May 18, 2014 (open until filled) BACKGROUND: The University of California Division of Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, a statewide program with local development and delivery, is seeking a Cooperative Extension (CE) 4‐H Youth Development (YD) academic advisor to conduct a multi‐county‐based extension, education and applied research program to develop, implement, evaluate, strengthen and expand local 4‐H programming that benefits youth and families in Colusa, Sutter, and Yuba Counties. The advisor will coordinate with public/private sector supporters of the 4‐H YD program; conduct resource development activities and seek external funding to expand programs such as the newly started 4‐H after‐school program. The advisor will provide leadership and expertise in youth development to other youth oriented programs in the counties. Our Culture: Working at UC ANR offers a career with a history and a future. Extension:Outreachmethodswillincludeindividualconsultations,fielddays,tours,meetings,webconferences,ANRpublications,peer‐reviewedjournals,andanappropriatemixofcontemporaryandemergingelectronictoolssuchasonlinelearning,webcontentsystemsandrepositories,socialmedia,impactandevaluationtools,alongwithspecializedandpublicmediaoutlets.ProgramswillbedevelopedandcarriedoutincollaborationwithotherANRacademicsaswellasrelatedgovernmentandprivateindustriesinColusa,Sutter,andYubaCounties.Throughcollaborationsandpartnerships,the4‐HYDadvisorwillpromotepositiveyouthdevelopment,andinturnimproveimportantoutcomessuchascompetence,confidence,character,connection,

caring,contribution,scienceliteracy,healthyliving,citizenship,andleadershipforyouthinthesecounties.Targetclientelefortheseeffortswillbeyouth,4‐Hprogramstaffandadultvolunteers,teachers,communityleadersandothersinvolvedinyouthdevelopmentandeducation.Extensionofresearchrelatedtopositiveyouthdevelopmentwillbedisseminatedviameetings,consultations,newsletters,publications,web‐basedcommunicationsandothermethodstoinformclienteleofissuesandsolutions.

Research:AllUCANRacademicadvisorsareexpectedtodevelopandimplementappliedresearchprogramstoprovidesciencebasedinformationaddressingcomplexissues.Theresearchareasrelatedtothispositionwillincludenewcontributionsinthefieldofyouthdevelopmentregardingeffectivepracticesandhelpincreasethenumbersofyouthengagedinout‐of‐schoolactivitiesthatresultinpositiveyouthdevelopment.GeneralAcademicExpectations:The4‐HYDAdvisorwillcollaboratewithappropriateUCANRProgramTeams,faculty,specialistsandadvisorswithintheresearch/extensionnetworktodevelop,strengthenandexpandthelocaldeliveryofstatewideprogramsanddevelopnewcurricula/programsforuseinscience,healthyliving,citizenshipand/orleadershipyouthdevelopmentprogramsthatisalignedwiththestatewidefocusandlocalcommunityneeds.TheAdvisorwilldevelopavarietyofdeliveryapproachesforexpandingtheprogramandreachnew,diverseaudiences.Theadvisorwillalsoberesponsibleforprovidingleadershiptobuildormaintainastrongvolunteermanagementsystemforthedeliveryofthe4‐HYouthDevelopmentProgram.TheAdvisorwillassess4‐HYDprogramstodetermineoutcomesofparticipationthatarealignedwiththeUC4‐HYouthDevelopmentFramework.Inadditiontoassessingmeasurablechangesinindividuals,theAdvisorwillassessfamilyandorganizationalaswellascommunitychange.ExpectedpublicationoutletswouldincludepeerreviewedpublicationssuchastheJournalofExtension,JournalofYouthDevelopment,EducationandCulture,JournaloftheCommunityDevelopmentSocietyandnon‐peerreviewedarticlessuchasUCDelivers,4‐Hnewsletters,andlocalcommunitynewspapers.AllANRCEacademicappointeesareresponsibleforperformanceintheareasofextendingknowledgeandinformation,appliedresearchandcreativeactivity,professionalcompetenceandactivityandUniversityandpublicservice.

o Conductappliedresearchdesignedtomonitorchangesandsolvelocallyrelevantproblems.

o Disseminateuseful,science‐basedinformationtoinformclientele,usingextensionmethodsthatareresponsivetoclienteleneedsandappropriatefortheaudienceandsituation.

o MaintainandpromoteCooperativeExtension’scredibilitybyprovidingscience‐basedknowledgeandskillsindependentofpersonalorparochialinterests.

o Evaluateprogramsandreportaccomplishments,results,andpotentialoractualimpactstoscientificandlayaudiences.

o DevelopcollaborativeteamswithotherUCANRacademics,includingcampus‐basedspecialists,AESfaculty,CEadvisorsand/orothers,toaddresspriorityissuesforUCANR.

Leadandcontributetothedesignandimplementationofavolunteerdevelopmentandmanagementprogram.

Cultivatecollaboratorsanddonorsaswellasgrantsforresearchandeducation/projectsupport.

Collaborateandnetworkwithgovernmentalagencies,4‐Hadultvolunteers,youthservices,organizations,industrygroups,schools,fairs,andinterestedindividuals.
