Position overview This is an exciting opportunity to join Australia’s oldest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s tertiary education provider of award-winning vocational education and training, higher education and world-leading research in Indigenous knowledge and education. Batchelor Institute is the only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples dual sector tertiary education provider in Australia. The Institute gives precedence to its philosophy of Both Ways: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as knowledge holders in all educational transactions with Western knowledge systems, as well as privileging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples ways of learning and teaching to underpin our engagement with mainstream education systems and society more broadly. This role will support strategic and tactical marketing and communications activities to attract new students, new partnerships, and new funding for Batchelor Institute. It will suit a person who has experience implementing and coordinating marketing and communications campaigns and creating content for digital landscapes to connect with audiences.

This role will support strategic and tactical marketing and communications activities to attract new students, new partnerships, and new funding for Batchelor Institute. It will suit a person who has experience implementing and coordinating marketing and communications campaigns and creating content for digital landscapes to connect with audiences.

Working in a small team, the Marketing and Communications Officer will have the opportunity to build on their skills and make a significant contribution to promote study and training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. This role will also help position Batchelor Institute as the first preference tertiary provider for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and academic and professional staff.

Primary objectives of the role1. Assist to develop, coordinate, and continuously improve integrated marketing and communications and

stakeholder engagement strategies.

2. Liaise with staff to ensure consistent messaging and brand guidelines are adopted across Batchelor Institute and ensure compliance with standards.

3. Develop and manage a content calendar to identify and harness communications and media relations opportunities.

4. Write content and produce images for digital platforms, course flyers, publications, brochures, and other promotional material.

5. Develop good working partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support marketing and communications activities in remote and urban settings.

6. Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Essential selection criteria1. A Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or a related field.

2. At least three to four years’ experience in marketing and communications.

3. Demonstrated experience implementing effective marketing and communications campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.

4. Demonstrated experience using digital and social platforms to reach and connect with target audiences.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading for a range of audiences.

6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills to develop and manage good working relationships with a range of stakeholders including students, lecturers, executives, service providers, the media and industry.

7. A proven awareness of historical and contemporary issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and an ability and willingness to communicate and consult in a culturally appropriate manner.

8. Must hold (or obtain) a current working with children clearance ‘Ochre Card’; possess a current criminal history check and clearance; and a current driver’s licence.

Desirable selection criteria1. Experience coordinating marketing and communications campaigns for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait

Islander communities and audiences.

2. Experience in digital design, preferably with knowledge of InDesign.
