New York Post, Friday, July 1, 2016 nypost.com 44 By JAMES ELLINGWORTH MARSEILLE, France — Ricardo Quaresma scored the winning pen- alty as Portugal beat Po- land 5-3 in a shootout in the European Champion- ship quarterfinals Thurs- day following a 1-1 draw after extra time. After scoring an extra- time winner in the round of 16 against Croatia, Quaresma sent his kick past Lukasz Fabianski to send Portugal to the semifinal against either Wales or Belgium (3 p.m., ESPN 2) in Lyon on Wednesday. It will be the fourth time the Portu- guese have reached the semifinals in the last five tournaments. Earlier, Poland striker Robert Lewandowski had put his team in front with the quickest goal of the tournament, scoring in- side two minutes. Portugal’s Cedric Soares misjudged a cross- field ball, allowing Kamil Grosicki to break free on left flank and send in a low cross for Lewan- dowski to convert with a first-time shot. Poland’s lead lasted un- til the 33rd minute, when Renato Sanches scored the equalizer. Then the 18-year-old passed to Nani, who sent it back immediately with a neat backheel. Sanches unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection off Grzegorz Krychowiak on its way past the out- stretched Fabianski. — AP Portugal reaches Euro semis on PKs SPORTS SHORTS MLB: Espinosa drives in seven for Nats Danny Espinosa hit a grand slam and a three-run homer to finish with a career-high seven RBIs, and the Nationals cruised past the Reds 13-4 Thursday in Washington. l The Dodgers acquired veteran pitcher Bud Norris from the Braves Thursday, the same day they said ace Clayton Kershaw will be placed on the 15- day disabled list because of a back injury NFL: Two Cowboys players suspended Dallas linebacker Rolando McClain has been sus- pended for the first 10 games this coming season for again violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence will get a four- game ban for his first violation. MARSEILLE, France —Ricardo Quaresma scored the winning penalty as Portugal beat Poland 53 in a shootout in the European Championship quarterfinals Thursday following a 11 draw after extra time.

After scoring an extratime winner in the round of 16 against Croatia, Quaresma sent his kick past Lukasz Fabianski to send Portugal to the semifinal against either Wales or Belgium (3 p.m., ESPN 2) in Lyon on Wednesday. It will be the fourth time the Portuguese have reached the semifinals in the last five tournaments.

Earlier, Poland strikerRobert Lewandowski hadput his team in front with the quickest goal of the tournament, scoring inside two minutes.

Portugal’s CedricSoares misjudged a crossfield ball, allowing Kamil Grosicki to break free on left flank and send in a low cross for Lewandowski to convert with a firsttime shot.

Poland’s lead lasted until the 33rd minute, when Renato Sanches scored the equalizer.

Then the 18yearoldpassed to Nani, who sent it back immediately with a neat backheel. Sanches unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection off Grzegorz Krychowiak on its way past the outstretched Fabianski.

LONDON — Garbine Muguruza’s first major tournament as a reigning GrandSlam champion didn’t lastlong.

Less than a month afterwinning the French Open, the secondseeded Spaniard was beaten in the second round of Wimbledon Thursday by a Slovakian qualifier ranked No. 124.

In the biggest upset of thetournament so far, Jana Cepelova beat a listless and mistakeprone Muguruza 63, 62 on Court 1 in less than an hour to reach the third round at the All England Club.

Muguruza looked like ashadow of the player that reached the final last year, where she lost to Serena Wil

liams, and beat Williams in the final at Roland Garros this month for her first majorchampionship.

“My energy was missing alittle today,” Muguruza said. “From yesterday I felt a little bit tired. During the match and after the match, I’m like, ‘Tough day today, empty today.’ ”

The last time a secondseeded woman lost at Wimbledon before the third round was in 2013, when Victoria Azarenka was beaten inthe second round.

The secondseeded men’splayer fared much better, as Andy Murray swept to a 63, 62, 61 victory on Centre Court over Lu YenHsun of Taiwan.

Murray, the 2013 champion, went down an early break in the first set, but settled down, took control and dropped only three more games the rest of the way, breaking the 76thranked Lu seven times.

Earlier, fivetime championVenus Williams led a group of Americans picking up victories as the tournament scrambled to get back on schedule after two days of ba

Williams was among nineAmerican players winning first or secondround matches.

U.S. men’s winners included John Isner, Sam Querrey, Donald Young, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson. Joining Williams among the women’swinners were Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys and Julia Boserup. — AP

ORLANDO, Fla. — Derrick Rose’s words have already resonated with centerJoakim Noah. Now Rose is trying to sway shooting guard Eric Gordon to reunite with him in New York.

According to an NBAsource, Rose has reached out to Gordon, the freeagent shooting guard who’s had injury issues, but is the best 3point shooter on the market.

Another NBA source toldThe Post the Knicks’ interest in the 6foot4 Gordon isgaining heavy traction within the organization as they desperately search for an affordable starting shooting guard.

Rose and Garden have anice history — once called “The Eric and Derrick Show.” Rose and Gordon were teammates on a Chicagobased AAU team, called the Mean Streets Ex

press. Some still regard it asthe best backcourt tandem in AAU history.

“We just played well together,” Gordon said in 2011.“At that time, we just wanted to show people thatwe’re trying to be the best out there. We jelled together. We both played uptempo games and loved to attack the basket.”

That’s what coach JeffHornacek is hoping to do this season. Gordon’s 3point shooting percentage across the past three years is 40.9 percent — one of theleaders among shooting

guards. The red flag is Gordon, 27, hasn’t played more than 65 games in a season because of nagging injuries.

“He’s a scorer andshooter,” Rose once said of Gordon. “I was just feeding him. He made my job easy. We really had a great time. I’m still friends with him and his dad.”

A source said, Gordon hasinterest in the Knicks, who have a lot of shootingguardoptions, including Kent Bazemore, Evan Turner and Chandler Parsons. But he’s on their radar.

➤ As expected the Knickscontacted reps for Courtney Lee, who has an offseason home in Orlando wherethe Knicks brass is for summer league.

➤ In search of a backuppoint guard, the Knicks alsoreached out to the reps of combo guard Austin Rivers, Doc’s son, who played for the Clippers last season.

If you were hoping to seeCC Sabathia take some swings Sunday in San Diego, you’re out of luck.

Joe Girardi decided tobump the lefty back a day to avoid any potential mishaps that might strike, especially because Sabathia is already dealing with a sore right ankle.

Sabathia instead will startin Chicago against the White Sox Monday and Chad Greenwill go in San Diego.

“If we can avoid CC havingto run the bases and hit [we will],” said Girardi, who referenced Sabathia’s injury suffered in Milwaukee in 2014, when he ended up with fluid in his knee and didn’t pitch again the rest of the season.

It also gives the Yankees theadded benefit of pushing Masahiro Tanaka back a day, as the righthander has been significantly more effective withan extra day’s rest this season.

While they likely can’t afford to do that very often the rest of the season, it figures tohelp before the AllStar break.

As for Green, he was justselected to the TripleA AllStar Game, thanks to a 1.54 ERA with Scranton/WilkesBarre. He made a start againstArizona on May 16 and was hit hard, giving up six runs (four earned) in just four innings.

Girardi is confident Greenwill be better this time around.

“His secondary stuff hascontinued to improve,” the manager said.

➤ Carlos Beltran wasn’t inthe starting lineup because ofa tight hamstring, but he did pinch hit in the seventh. He walked and was immediately replaced by pinchrunner Starlin Castro.

“My guess is he won’t be astarter [Friday],” Girardi said of Beltran for the game in SanDiego, where the Yankees won’t have a DH.

Because of Beltran’s injury,Alex Rodriguez started a second straight game against a righthanded pitcher after being benched earlier in the week.
