Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise Project Proposal (P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3) Candidate name: Ryan Sharman Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot Predicted final outcome During my photo shoot I will produce around 50 high quality images exploring the many styles of portrait photography. I will use no more than two models to feature in my music magazine ranging from both of them in shots and some single. Most of my shots will be taken inside some with artificial lighting and maybe some with natural light. I will possibly take some photos outside and see what they look like depending on the weather situation and also the lighting. The style of my magazine is going to be monochrome so the models will have monochrome clothes and I might feature some photos to be in black and white. After I have taken about 50 images I then will pick 10 good quality photos which I like and then start the post production process. Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others) The reason I want to take these photos in the style that I have chosen is because the monochrome I think will look classy and suit the style of photography which I am going to apply. Like I mentioned above I might feature some of the photos in my magazine to be black and white so when having that idea I think lighting is key. This is because it can most definitely complement a models face when used correctly.

Unit 57: Photography and Photographic PractiseProject Proposal

(P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3)

Candidate name: Ryan Sharman

Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot

Predicted final outcome

During my photo shoot I will produce around 50 high quality images exploring the many styles of portrait photography.

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

The reason I want to take these photos in the style that I have chosen is because the monochrome I think will look classy and suit the style of photography which I am going to apply. Like I mentioned above I might feature some of the photos in my magazine to be black and white so when having that idea I think lighting is key. This is because it can most definitely complement a models face when used correctly.

Now moving onto magazines that are similar to the look I want. The first magazine which I liked the style and layout was Billboard Magazine.

Even though the colour is not the style that I am going for, the layout is a definite interest that I am influenced by. I also like how the magazine issues are different for example the Adele and Drake photos are close up and the Katy Perry photo is like a wide angle shot. I will have these different types of shots featured in my magazine ranging from extreme close up, close up and wide shots.

Now onto a photographer which I really like the style of Mario Testino.

I chose this photographer especially because of the black and white photographs he produces and creates. I want my photos to come out similar to these shown above l like how the photographer uses dark clothes to contrast the skin tone of the models. When it comes to my photo shoot I will be using two models so some of my shots would feature two people instead of one as shown above.

Moving onto my last photographer Ryan Jerome.

This photographer is quite similar to the photographer I mentioned above but a few differences between them. Ryan Jerome has a very cool style which I have completely fallen in love with, I just like how in some shots the models are serious with modelling and then in other shots they’re themselves and just fun and quirky. See another photographer shoot in black and white and seeing how great the images turned out gives me really good ideas on wanting to do the same style.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

The camera which I will be using is the Canon EOS 600D that has a 18 megapixel CMOS sensor which can pick up amazing detail in photos and that’s how I want my photos to come out. I hope to achieve lots of detail in the facial features of the models faces and I can do this by the camera I am using. It also has a tilt and swivel LCD monitor that allows me to shoot from different positions and still be able to see what I’m shooting. I will also use a tripod to get steady shots of my models and it allows somewhere for my camera to go when sorting the models out instead of putting it down in random places.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

When it comes to the technique framing, when I picture the images I want I only see close ups of the models face and possibly some from the waist up. This is only because I’m trying to focus on the model’s details of their face and not much of their bodies. Now onto style; I have mentioned a lot about style above in the influences section. The styles of the photos I am going to take are going to be in black and white, with a monochrome theme and the models to have a dark vibe about them.

Location of shoot My music magazine is going to be similar to the billboard magazine but with an electronic/indie twist. The location will be indoors either in my house or at the college studio and also possibly some outdoor shots.
