LUNCH/DINNER
Unlike London and Paris, Porto it’s a city that sleeps, although it has a great nightlife during all week. There
are some areas (Industrial area chiefly) that are “on” all
night.
In Porto people like to have fun! Be it for a quick
cup of coffee or for a whole festive night.
The nightlife starts in small coffee houses in every corner of the city and around midnight people start to
go to the discos and other night clubs. The party stops just when the sun starts to rise and when the bakeries
open the doors to the public you can see groups of people having their breakfast together after a sleepless
night; this is a very common habit.
There are all kinds of coffee houses, pubs and night clubs in Porto here you can see some of the most
famous:
Coffee Houses:
Café Progresso Rua Actor João Guedes, 5 r/c
Café Ceuta Rua de Ceuta, 20
Majestic Café Address: Rua de
Santa Catarina, 112,

hot spot with attractive art
nouveau decor. A
variety of live performances such
as chamber orchestras and jazz
bands are frequently on stage.
Visitors often stop
by in the afternoon or evening for a cocktail or cup of coffee and enjoy the entertainment provided.
Bars: Fado Irish Pub We're talking about fado: literal translation – fate, the
sad state of yearning and mourning that which has been lost. This is called saudade. The oddest sight that you
will ever see is when the radio stations play the Queen
of Fado, Amália Rodrigues, and every car pulls off to the side of the road so passengers can shed a tear of regret
to the accompaniment of a 12 string guitars' mournful wail. It seems as if this uniquely Portuguese
appreciation for sorrowful songs is an acceptance of the power of fate. You can hear fado music just about
anywhere in Porto. Don't worry, for you'll know its soulful and emotional sound anywhere
