2. Warner Paci#c preparedness event: (2 volunteers needed), Thursday, April 7, 11 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. Warner Paci#c College is hosting a preparedness event for students on
Thursday, April 7. Two NETs are needed to talk about the NET and BEECN programs and
about basic preparedness. The idea is to get students prepared and encourage them
to get involved with the NET program. Please email Felicia Heaton if you’re available,

3. Cooling Center Training: Everyone has heard about the threat of a major
earthquake on the Cascadian fault, but you should also be aware of the hazards of
heat emergencies that will be coming as our summers get hotter. Elders in Action
in cooperation of Portland Bureau of Emergency Management and Portland Fire &
Rescue will be doing a training on emergency preparations for both situations on

Wednesday, May 11 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Ride Connection (9955 NE Glisan St.,
Portland OR). Jennifer Masotja from Multnomah County Emergency Preparedness will
discuss, “Preparing for Cascadia” while Kim Kosmas from Portland Fire & Rescue will
focus on “Dealing with Heat Emergencies in Portland’s Rapidly Changing Summers”.
Training will count toward NET Team credits for supporting Cooling Center support.

4. OCCRA - On Call Community Rescue For Animals: An emerging organization
dedicated to wild animal rescue in the urban area is looking for new volunteers. The
training you would receive if you choose to volunteer is relevant to NET (emergency
animal response). I have included their recruitment letter with this newsletter. If you

5. Help needed for PortlandPrepares.org: PortlandPrepares.org has been created as
a landing page for all Portland NET teams and NET releated info (i.e., HAM radio, NET
gear, supplies, etc.) Por tlandPrepares.org becomes active this weekend April 3rd
2016 when NoPoNET.org website transitions to PortlandPrepares.org. WE NEED INPUT
FROM YOUR TEAM to (1) redirect to your existing website and/or (2) start a new

8. SECONDARY NET AFFILIATION: Our primary NET is (usually) the NET for the
neighborhood we reside in. But how about the neighborhood we work in, or spend a
lot of time in for other purposes? This is your Secondary A"liation. For example, I live
in Irvington and my NET Irvington. I work in Lents, so my secondary a%liation is Lents.
There is now a way in your pro#le to indicate your secondary NET a"liation: log in,
and click on the “My Pro#le” tab. Under the heading of “NET A%liation and Role” is a
drop down menu to select your secondary NET. Later, I will provide these secondary
NET a"liation lists to the Team Leaders and encourage them to reach out to you.
