1ST FLOOR PLAN

Habitat for Humanity TC and the University of Minnesota collaborated in the spring of 2012 to design a single family net zero energy home in North Minneapolis, Minnesota, finished December 2013. The two parties agreed on certain specific net-zero energy goals to provide a family in need not only with a new and affordable home, but one which has the potential to balance the energy use with the energy gain and result in net-zero energy costs. The design team was entrusted with the task of creating a design that offers both flexibility for the future home owner and ease of construction for volunteers.

Challenge: design an addition to Rapson Hall with net-zero EUI and concurrently a sensitivity to lighting, comfort, and programmatic needs.

The program contains CSBR offices, laboratories, additional classroom space, and outdoor space. Lighting and thermal performance was measured using IES-VE.
