Runway Magazine

• The included works were assignments from a Fashion in the Media course during Summer 2009.

• Throughout the class we were asked to write different pieces that would be used in a fashion magazine. – Based on Fall 2009 RTW

• Runway Magazine would be a Fashion magazine more directly targeted at the fashion and apparel industry. – It would include stories on models, designers, and key industry

leaders. As well as have coverage on red carpet events, parties, etc.

– It would be a mix between the magazine W and Harper’s Bazaar

Editor’s Letter

• Leading fashionista and style icon Kate Moss has everyone’s eyes turning; fans and designers alike. Just standing at 5’6 the ultra thin model strolls in looking like a super star even though she sports a grungy pair of cut off jean shorts, tissue-T, and army boots.

• Once being scrutinized for looking like a “waif” others now glorify her one-of-a-kind look and unique image-and it’s very obvious why. The English model since first making big bang in the fashion world, having arrived in the 1990s, has continued to not only to turn heads but has become one of the most infamous models for being a muse to fashion designers leading looks.

• Pictured on the cover is her wearing a Marc Jacobs silver metallic one shoulder dress and turban, being escorted by the renowned Marc Jacobs himself. She has been named ‘best dressed’ too many times to count and has been a face for every designer ad possible; seeing her outlook on all of this stardom will shock you more than her appearance alone.

Trend Report : “Dangerously Neon”

• Neon electric and eccentric colored prints hit the runways for fall. Michael Kors paired lime green fur jackets and juicy tangerine Eskimo hats with classic cut pencil skirts, cigarette trousers, and square shaped jackets.

• The bold colored fabrics while still on the same wave length as the 80s were given a more edgy and sleek look by being put with black undertones.

• Marc Jacobs added a pop of color in his canary yellow fan shaped dresses and separates. Evening wear wasn’t the only place racy shades appeared; oversized wool jackets came in every color found within a Crayola box. From pink, to green, purple, blue and red, Jacobs didn’t fail to miss a single beat.

Trend Report: “Dangerously Neon”

• Louis Vuitton used bright blues and green palettes paired with black lace in evening wear, and in his neutral looks gave a flash of pink lingerie under a sheer, tissue thin turtle neck.

• Vuitton’s satin brocade inspired leggings were just as brightly colored and bejeweled; having the same matching print as the bubble skirt it was showed with. The colors were inventive and appeared not only in apparel but also hit big in accessories. Even in his almost completely solid black dresses, a pink silk sash or lime green leather chain necklace gave his designs a burst of life.

• This fall is all about taking a chance with color and breaking out of the dark and gloomy depression. Whether it’s adding a vivid belt or splurging for a lime green fur coat by Michael Kors you will add some shock to your closet and look stunningly vibrant while doing it.

• Don’t just stop at your closet, but try an equally bold hue on your eyelids. The world may not seem just as bright as you yet but you will be giving everyone else a cheerful and sexy new canvas to affix their eyes upon.

“Bright & Shining Plastic Couture”

• Diamonds-which are usually a girl’s best friend-are not all the rave with the economic times at hand. However, glamour never goes out of style. So to keep up with the times without looking like you’re barely making it through them, opt for fashion jewelry instead of large pricey baubles.

• Many celebrities are sporting these items not only when hitting the streets for a bite to eat but also wearing them to red carpet events.

• An onlooker will not be able to tell the price tag, as long as it is not cheap looking, so why spend on something that only looks fabulous with that bright blue dress you splurged on for summer?

• There are so many fabulous costume jewelry designers; it just doesn’t make sense not to take advantage of them. Seeing such prestigious stars choosing to wear such inexpensive jewelry for evening wear sends a great message for women who don’t have the pocket to foot the bill.

Marc Jacob’s Runway Review

Page 14: Portfolio 3

Marc Jacob's runway review

• It was the Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 runway show that gave the audience a full blast back into the vibrant 1980s. Neon and metallic colored fabrics were all the rave along with his baroque inspired leggings and over used zipper embellishments.

• The larger than life clothing was given an edgy persona by the use of black undertones. Fan shaped bodices as well as power shoulders were a repeating design theme throughout the collection, appearing not only his dresses but also in his woolen coats and separates.

• Exaggerated shoulder lines corresponded with equally inflated bubble skirts, remaking the look of a 1980s prom dress. Also seen was the already fashionable peg leg pant style that continued to walk down the runway in styles ranging from career suit trousers to colored and re-dyed denim.

• To finish off the look each model flaunted her own eccentric frizzed hairdo and bold colored makeup designs.

• Despite the going green trend of some designers, it was far from this designer’s collection who insisted that it was not the least bit affected by the economic times; although the shortened guest list could argue. However his creation of a wide variety of separates may be the perfect solution to a wearable and sellable Fall 2009 line.
